Smile fuel reserve when needle low...

Could someone tell me about how much fuel remains when the needle hits the E? I'm just trying to get grips on my full mpg. Thanx.

Not to be confused with the low level light, I have ~ 15 miles of gas left when the needle is on E.

I figured about 3 gallons when the light comes on, just under two as the needle approached "E".

don't use the needle position to figure out your mpg... figure out your gas milage when you fill up and know exactly how much fuel you used.

when the light goes on, you have used about 13 gallons; when you hit "E" you have maybe 1/2 useable fuel left. You will have a difficult time using the 'entire' tank capacity [impossible, really]. search for my earlier posts about running out[last Aug time frame]

Like PrOber said, figure your mileage correctly by dividing travelled miles by the gallons to fill. Gauge position will vary, and will NOT give you an accurate MPG measurement.

im looking for exact. the tank holds what 15 gallons.? I know that when i fill up the light is on. and i can typically put about 13.-13.5 gallons in it to reach max capacity. just trying to see how far i could push the gas in my car without having to call mazda roadside to come bring me gas on the side of the road. lol

This morning I filled up with my needed (1) needle width below the E.

Took 14.1 gallons - for 310 miles driven.

Hope this helps. I have not gone below that on my gauge, however I have gone this far on several occasions.

320 miles, WAY below the "E" and took 14.6. Once earlier when I didn't know where a statuion was on a trip I took 15.2 gallons. Every car I have had I like to slowly run it further down. Next time I will bring a gallon with me and run it out. That way I will really know when I get caught in a strange area again.

Probably each car is slightly different on the gauge reading. Also, as others have said, the take has two parts and some gas can slosh ofer to the other side when turning or on a rough road, so be carefull when you work it down.
