Fumoto Quick Oil Drain Valve install looks funky... HELP.

I installed the Fumoto Valve on my oil pan on this last oil change. The thing is that it ended up pointing downwards and not up as in all the illustrations. I'm worried that it may clip something as the car is so low. I tried unscrewing it and screwing it back in a couple of times but it ended up in the same position. Anyone know what's up?

I've included a pic.

Yes, I realize this. I suppose that goes along with the thing being installed incorrectly. I wanted others to chime in on whether or not this is how theirs ended up. If not, then what am I doing wrong...?

Pretty much looks like mine (installed spring 2004). Mine's rotated maybe 45 degrees counter-clockwise from yours. But that's sort of a random function of how the threads play out. No problems so far.

I trust you got the proper adapter (linked)? Otherwise yes that's pretty much it. I believe your picture is deceptive as it doesn't really hang down much at all; certainly not a speedbump hazard.

As a brass ball valve with a spring-retained lever it's very secure.

I got the correct adapter. I suppose it doesn't hang that low, but it does seem like it's the lowest part of the underbelly of the car.

It might be worth your while to consider a sumpguard like performance rally cars use.

The question is whether or not it clears the cross brace. If it's lower than the cross brace then I might be concerned. Otherwise if it's not the lowest part of the car you're fine. Consider the fact that if anything hits it, it will also hit your oil pan.

Buy a Pela Pump Oil Extractor 6000 instead. Why climb under the car?

Can that be plumbed in so that it extracts the oil in the coolers too?

khronus79, thank you very much for taking those photos. I'll have to check to see if mine dips below the cross-member. If it does, do you think it'd be out of line for me to ask Fumoto to send me a new one?

have you tried rotating just the valve without tightening the adapter(since the adapter is at its tightest)???
I think if you can get it to point straight to the back you'll be okay, I don't think the little opening tab would hang below the crossmember if it was pointing straight back.

I've tried tightening the valve portion of it more, but it's pretty tight on there as it is. I'm afraid I'll strip the threads if I turn it more....

Ah, ******* hell. That's a goddamned good idea. Why didn't I think of that?! Next oil change, I'll make sure to pick up a washer or two. Can it just be any kind of washer?

Because pumping out the oil doesn't get all the 'sediment' that a full drain does.

No, not just any washer. Use the same type crush washer that you would normally.
