You heard right, Shaun. I saw the list of concerns on the MDS when we were loading it up. The other concerns were of a much lesser nature by comparison.

I'm talking to the Mechanic at the local dealer and he tells me that it was July of 07. His information says improve mileage. Hell it could have been for anything as he tells me that Mazda treats him like a mushroom Keeps him in the dark and feeds him bull ****. It was not a call in flash and he was told just to flash every car that came in for service.

Is secretly flashing our cars supposed to be some sort of carrot for us to bring our cars into dealerships for service?

Hmm, maybe I should check for my version. if Mazda dealerships was told to *flash every car in for service*

How do you check your flash version?

There is supposed to be a "campaign"(as these maneuvers are called) sticker somewhere under the hood to denote the work as having been done. My dealer never put anything of informational value under my hood, though. Another way is to connect the MDS system to the PCM and the level of flash will be indicated on the screen.

^^ that sticker usually only applies to recalls.
I can pull up flash version with my scanalyzer, I just need to remember which letters / numbers designate the flash version.

sCANylser tells you I think.

I've been to 3 dealerships for flash update over the course of 2 and 1/2 yrs of ownership. NONE of them put any *god damn* stickers. even the recall flash (last one i got)

Mazda dealership gives quality service anyone with me?

I have no stickers of any kind underneath the hood, even though I know the recall was done. I have a giant spreadsheet with all work performed, gas mileage, recalls, repairs, and modifications done to the car so I'd like to update my flash specification.

MDS system? Is that a code reader or something else?

The MDS is a pretty sweet set up that costs between $3,000-$4,000 and when I was able to hook one up to my car it was quite impressive to see how many sensor/data inputs our PCM is dealing with and what it does with that info.

Let me guess, some of the stuff cannot be read by anything else bcuz they're *Mazda only* (like patented stuff) ???

It'll work on Ford stuff, too, but the truth is that the software is the key to it all and Mazda isn't about to let THAT proprietary info leak out. The PCM/software is the one thing that most helps all the OEMs deal with our fascist government and it is very expensive to design/develop.

Sooner or later someone will figure something out, if our communitiy is big enough like those in Subaru or Mitsubishi ....

Anyway, Hymee will be our first hero I guess. I never program anything thats automobile related so I have zero idea how it works. maybe I should ask my professor he has a phd in computer science.

My guess is the reason Mazda has such secrecy surrounding the new flash is because to continue modifying the OMP maps may be construed as an admission of a recurring problem.

Now you are starting to think like me. I like you better when you are the optimist!

I just checked my flash and its "T".

That's the pragmatic "lawyer" in me. I am, however, disappointed that you would make preferences over which version of me you prefer. I have always vowed to like you no matter how much of an ******* you might be from time to time!

That can be quite trying sometimes.

Jeez, I was kidding, okay?!
