Here is what everybody want to know: how often to dump premix into the gas fill port.

Of course, driving away from the gas pump with premix junk freshly added is the smoothest time. After that, it just goes downhill. Maybe it gets used up or degraded.

Perhaps every 50 miles, add some more premix junk?

Huh? Don't most people premix every fill up? Are you asking if people add additional premix throughout the span of that tank of gas? I don't, but interesting question.

1/2 oz per gallon when I fill up. If you add more in between you are increasing the ratio and could start to foul your plugs or lower your octane if it gets too high. that being said I think it's okay to go up to 1oz per gallon if you're going to be driving hard all day like at the track.

I had a thought the other day. Why can we not simply add 2-cycle to our crankcases when using synthetic oil?

I apologize. I did do some searches before my original post; I just didn't think enough. If we believe that the OMP does an inadequate job at best, and that 4-cycle oil is a compromise for lubricating the seals...that's why we use 2-cycle and put it in the gas tank. Right? Any advantage to also putting some in the crankcase when running syn oil?
Thanks.

2 cycle oil is meant to burn. If you want the OMP to be using 2 cycle, get a Sohn adapter. But don't put 2-cycle in your crankcase. You need 4 cycle oil to lube the crank case. 2 cycle oil is meant to be burned, not meant to be subjected to high heat for long periods and solely lubricate.

At least that's my take on the situation.

ok well since i just got my car and it has a brand new engine im going to start pre-mixing right off the bat. I have been reading alot and just want to make sure i got this right. I DD this car and enjoy running it in the upper revs so what is the best pre-mix i could go with. I have looked on that FP site and im not sure which i need. The regular FP or the FP60? and i have also read some just use the Idemitsu stuff. I would like to just add one type of premix every tank and not worry about it.

Thanks

There are 2 main reasons for adding premix: lubrication and cleaning.

FP Plus for gasoline by Lube Control is a favorite for cleaning and Idemitsu is a favorite for lubrication and these two are commonly mixed. That's what I do. You could use either one alone--FP Plus does have some lubricating properties and Idemitsu has some cleaning properties. But enough?

For those who want both lubrication and cleaning from a single premix, Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) is fairly popular. A few think it is snake oil in part because of the hoaky name and but some real experts are not afraid of the silly name and have analyzed the ingredients and are quite satisfied. It's also relatively cheap and easy to find locally.

You could go up to 1/2 oz per gallon I believe. I keep it lower than that. I add about 5 oz of premix per an approximate 12-13 gallon fillup.

Anything TCW-3 certified (on the label) is fine to use. No magic mystery 2-stroke oil is honestly necessary. Been doing it for 10 years. 3/4oz to 1gal of fuel is fine for normal driving or even as low as 1/2oz if you don't do any hard driving at all. 1oz per 1gal fuel is optimal for race day, dyno day, auto-x day, or beat the crap out of the car down the highway day.

I went to my local Pep Boys today and found some Lucas Oil 2 cycle semi-synthetic (Low Ash). Has anyone tried it yet? I know Lucas oil is well known but I haven't heard anyone who's tried their 2 cycle. I also found RP's 2 cycle on their shelf. Any feedback will be appreciated.

If it's TCW-3 certified (and I don't recall if it is), then give it a go. Make sure it's not the Engine Oil Stabilizer aka mucous.
