Gas/Oil Premix Thread

ohio gozaimas!
Ok, thanks guys. The light has been on for a few days now after re-tightening the cap twice, so maybe something else is going on. Car drives fine. Just odd that 5 years as a daily driver, the one tank I put premix in triggers a CEL. Maybe I should buy a lotto ticket.

Go to Autozone have them check what the code is.
I have a CEL that poped up for no reason a month ago, its a P0420 (if Im not mistaken), seems I have a bad CAT.
CAT's are known to fail out of nowhere.

And they're covered under an 8 year warranty, right? I have the Racing Beat exhaust - gotta make sure the dealership doesn't void the warranty over that.

If you go back to the start of this thread, you will see that it is common practice for many RX8 owners to use motorcycle oil and 2stroke oil as a premix. You can add whatever you like in your gas, its your car. The oils mentioned above and Marvel Mystery Oil(when you work on bikes for 3 yrs, MMO doesnt mean marvel mystery oil

if the light comes back on after a few miles then you take it into a shop. always do your own diagnosis it saves time and money.

you need to clear the codes.. I would just suggest taking off the positive battery wire for 30 mins for so.. put the wire back on start the car turn the wheel all the way to the right all the way to the left so the DSC and TCS can get adjusted again. Then let it warm. you should be good.

if the problem is still there after you manually clear the codes then the CEL will come back again.
if its not then it will not come back that simple. clear the codes and see what happens.

I have read through the whole thread, but I think you're going to either confuse people around here or continue to be misunderstood if you try and insist that MMO does not mean Marvel Mystery Oil around here. That's just been the common usage here. Personally, I don't use MMO 'cause I like the fact that Idemitsu was designed for rotary usage.
Any way, I have been thinking about getting some Idemitsu and was wondering if others would be interested in trying to get a group buy going for it. Once we get a headcount or a general idea, we can get it approved my the moderators. PM Me if interested so I can get a head count and see if the savings would be beneficial.

Though I have started to wonder whether the FP+ makes a difference or not. Course I'll use it while I've got it, just wondering. What if you used some gas that boasted detergent qualities such as Shell V-Power, or this new Invigorate nonsense from BP? Or are the levels of detergent they use extremely weak and useless?

I'm not that precise. On average, my fill-ups are about 13 or 14 gallons. I have 5.25-6.0 oz premix bottles, which I fill with anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 oz of FP+ and the rest Idemitsu.

Yeah I use 8 oz bottles with something like 1-1.5 oz FP+ mixed with 4 oz of Idemitsu. I'm not all that precise with the FP+. Just a splash.
I suppose you may be right about the FP+ doing a little lubricating, but if we are throwing in Idemitsu anyway, how much additional lubrication could it possibly be adding... Meh, no way to really tell, so I'll just keep at it. Not like we're spending a fortune on premix supplies.

Unfortunately, I started premixing kinda late, around 45K, hopefully not too much damage was done before I started. I'll be doing a rebuild at some point, so I guess I'll see how screwed up my housings and rotors are.
