Question Gear/Transmission whine....

Hey guys...a tech question if I may.....My 07 GT 6spd with 2k miles has a loud whine when coasting between 65-76 mph (foot off the gas, car in 6th). Is this normal? Car has no mods and the whine is loud enough to be heard over the stereo. Thanks in advance..........

Doesn't sound normal to me. Take it in to the dealer and have a tech ride with you. while you produce the noise. If they say its normal, ask the tech to test drive another one of the 8's on the lot and see if it has the noise too. The dealership probably is not going to want to tear down the transmission just for a noise, but you can at least get it documented that there is something abnormal going on.

How loud is the stereo that you can hear this noise over it? 10? 15? 20?

i have this same problem... this is only after they rebuilt my tranny. right now they just brush me off and say it my exhaust .
so i agree first take a test drive with urs... wait for him to say its normal, then test another car in the lot.

Taj, dont be giving out misleading information like that. Although it may be possible it IS the synchros, its extremely unlikely. YOU here the synchros when YOU try to shift into 1st gear over 15mph or so(from your other thread about it) thats not the same as a noise while coasting highway speed with the throttle closed

i have the same problem, i think.. it's a really light chiming or grinding noise but i was only getting it in 5th and 6th gear.. also my idle was much noisier when the clutch was out in neutral.. when i went to the dealer, i ended up getting a new tranny.. i just got it back today and although the idle-in-neutral-with-the-clutch-out noise is much better, i'm still getting the chiming sound but now i'm hearing it in 4th, 5th, and 6th now.. i'm wondering if i just need to break it in or should i run it back to the dealer..
