Question Going Catless

OK gear heads... In January I'm gonna go catless. I know my cat is clogging and I'm as sure **** not paying for a new one. I wanna go with a good midpipe at a decent price. I also don't want one that sounds like a raspy *** Honda. I need one that doesn't cost too much either. ($200-$350) The AP midpipe sounds like a fart can. Any other suggestions?

Ok. Maybe I offended some members for the comment on AP midpipes. That's just my opinion about them. I may increase my spending some to go with the BHR midpipe only because I can scrap the old cat for a lil extra cash. I'm on a budget because I'm also purchasing an Exedy clutch and doing a full tuneup.

You could just gut your cat for awhile until you have more funds

Defiantly not doing that. They're worth a lil bit of money. Plus it will sound like an accord without an exhaust. My 8 is better than that. I'm stuck on BHR unless someone knows one that sounds better at a decent price. Not sure if anyone can beat that.

If your cat is clogged your better off gutting it for now. A clogged cat can cause detonation/misfires and ignition failure. Keep a clogged cat long enough and you'll need a new motor.

It's not totally clogged yet. It's not driven all the time so I know it can wait another 30 days.

Have you taken your cat out and looked inside to see if it is really clogged.

I'm running an old gutted midpipe with a new Davesport high flow cat welded in
The result is louder but not obnoxious.
Sort of a middle solution to think about.

You are not going to find something that is cheap and great quality that will last. Go with the BHR pipe since it is the only one with a resonator that wont melt or burn up.

How do you know it can last another 30 days? Have you visually inspected all parts of the cat and came to the conclusion or is it just a guess? If you have no clue how clogged it is it would be in your best interest to just not drive it I think.

Not yet. It's gonna go anyhow. Cat gets hot, power and MPG loss ect ect. It's clogging.

Thread jack

LOL

Going well... At the drywall stage

We put a hell of a lot of framing, wiring and plumbing into this project and now we are getting down to the finishings and built-ins.

So it could be that you just need new coils/plugs/wires. Do you now the history of the car ie:when was the last time these where changed

Very minimal driving if at all until it's replaced. Any vids DarkBrew of the exhaust note?

You could always go the route I did, 2 18" resonators, 3" piping all the way to a nice muffler w/ duel outlet. Its not loud at all, unless I backfire, then its like a nice gunshot.
If I can find a pic, I will post it for you.

Resonating midpipes are what I would do. I'm getting one soon, much better alternative to replacing the cat with another. Standard cats cause too much restriction. Gutted my cat recently in the meantime

Well I've made my mind up. Gonna go with the BHR midpipe. Thanks to all who contributed their thoughts and knowledge!
