gooey brown bubbly oil...

Hey, yeah had the same issue with mine. Had been sitting on the car lot for 3 months after being in transit from japan.
The primary reason that the foamy substance occurs is that all mineral based oil has water content. Over time when the engine is not being used (read regularly) it separates out, and begins to evaporate upwards. Hence the larger amount found around the dipstick bung.
Regarding oil levels. The best time to check levels are at cold. Try not to overfill it as it will seep down the rubber accordion (intake). Not detrimental as you can just wipe excess out.
Hope this helps.
PS, all of us had to learn somewhere. Good to see you're making use of the forum.

i understand where you are coming from nycgps, saying that people should utilize the search function and all. but having more threads relevent to a subject does make it easy for other people to find exactly what they need to find when they are using the search engine. and so far you have posted 4 times into this thread and none of which have at all been helpful... and i know your probably going to come up with some witty response like all the hard asses on forums do and go call me a "noob" and this and that. but in all reality you just make your self look like a jack ***. im sure you do know a thing or two about our cars seeing as your also in the rx7 scene, but if your not going to be helpful, dont post. nobody cares you have 14,000 posts.... its an online forum. get over yourself
to all the other who did help thank you.

I do know that a lot of kids in school are looking for direct answers to all their test/homework. Why don't u do everybody there a favor and give it to them? moron.
You don't research, you don't study, you don't learn. Simple.
but I guess I just waste my time again right? cuz morons like you never understands the learning process. oh well. me out ~ (n free post count!)

so im sorry i dont have time to look up pitty info about oil on a car forum when im writing a 35 page paper on stem cells. and meiosis vs. mitosis.
so if you want to sit around on an online forum and boss people around and act like the internet police then go right ahead. but its very ignorant of you to call people morons before you even know who you're talking to...

just because you get into medical field does not mean you're smart. because given enough time and effort anybody can get into medical field.
hmm if your'e so smart you would've got the answer on your own? ohhh I know why, I bet ya that they never taught u how to find answers on google? oh man I feel 100+ to my IQ now.
gotta love those "morons" who think people on forums have to spend 8+ hrs a day to read/reply post ... and they came to these "no life losers" for tips ... ROFL.

turned out he was a bigoted moron with a serious Napoleon complex.
you education level and IQ don't make you wise or give you common sense.
edit: btw Im currently reading through the research being done at University of Missouri Columbia about RNA folding and mis-folding and its role in disease creation. you should check it out http://vfold.missouri.edu/chen-lab02.html

It's not always about searching using the search function. Often its just reading the stickies and/or other current threads...

Read the Stickies? They are at the top of the forum and one of them is about foamy oil.

Yeah... I read the premix thread... 10 pages of troubleshooting (oddly enough, not the stickies on there... Haha), just got done with the tranny issues. All in all, I've read a ton of stuff on here. Considering that I don't even have an 8 yet, I'd say I'm doing just fine.
Let me tell you though, I won't be getting an 04!

And not all '04s are full of problems. I love mine. But yeah if you want better odds of not having them pop up, get a later year. And take good care of it! (which it sounds like you will)

haha i like the tutorial you left, although im already ahead of you. i searched and i already read that thread along with 2 others. there has yet to be an answer that conviced me of what the true problem is. some people said its from flooding the engine, minus i have never flooded my engine, another said after hard driving the foam goes away, not my case. took it for a few redline laps and its still the same. some people say its because of the cold but its 35 outside when i tested, i dont think thats cold enough to cause this.... not saying that thats wrong, im just wondering if there is any new news on the subject people have learned yet
Here's a bit of data. (BTW, The oil temp gauge reads temperature at the oil filter which is after the oil coolers and just before re-entering the engine)
In 40F weather my oil stays at 160F on the highway at 75MPH no matter how long I drive it.
cooler temp = cooler oil.
To achieve 185F oil temp I had to drive hard, maintain high RPM and stay below 4th gear to hit 185F. This is a bit hard on the wallet.
People will tell you that oil temp follows coolant temp but this is applies more to the top end of the temp scale. In winter the oil can be much cooler than the coolant temp.
The cool oil temps are responsible for normal condensation not being 'burned off' and the condensation causes the foam.
My suggestion is to get an oil temp gauge and then partially block the oil coolers until you can maintain minimum 180F oil temps.
