Grinding noise

Ok, I've been all over the forum and you tube but cannot find the same issue.

I have a 2006 with 16,000kms on it. Have a grinding noise when going from a complete stop and accelerating. Like a metal chugging sound, like if you had worn out brakes that are partially engaged. This only happens however after 20-30 mins or more of driving, when the car or whatever part is warmed up, and only at low speed. So I can drive it to work and back every day. No problem. But if I travel to the next town it will grind when I come to my first full stop off the highway and go to accellerate. Sounds fine while driving at highway speeds. Happens more so on a left hand turn as well. Which is also how it started. But now has gotten worse and your hear it from dead stop even going straight.

I checked the metal plate surrounding the rotor for rocks. Nothing. I was thinking bearings but never heard bearings like this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you jacked up the car and rotated the wheels to see if you can reproduce the sound and narrow it down?
You said it happens after 20-30min of driving, so lift the car after a good drive and see what you hear.

Also since it happens at low speeds, have someone follow/walk next to the car and listen for the noise too.

Lastly a video recording might help us to hear what you hear and give you better guidance.

Sounds like the thrust bearing to me...
First thing to check: drain the oil and remove the oil pan and see if there are any metal shavings.
if there is, you better stop spinning the motor and get to work. The debris will pollute the main bearings and before you know it the motor will cease.
Same happened to me on my old motor. It was making the grinding noise when I was decelerating or breaking, or making a (yeas exactly now that I think about it - a hard left) for a few days, and I couldn't figure out what that was, kept looking at breaks, and loose things on the car, and then... kaboom... Never knew what hit me until I tore the motor apart.

Hope though I am not the bearer of bad news.

Well. I haven't been able to get a really good reproduction of what it does. Had a friend listen multiple days. And couldn't get it. I had it jacked up tonight. Checked. Diff fluid. A lil from the top but not empty by any means. Also pulled the caliper off the drivers rear side since I think that's where it's coming from and there's drag even with the caliper off. Def not easy to turn. There's no play in the bearing when trying to rock the wheel up and down or side to side. So I'm still at a loss. Bad hub I'm assuming.

I have taken it into a garage here and they weren't sure what the issue was either, you would think with the amount of noise its making that it would be obvious but no. He thought it was around the rear U joint or drive shaft, as there is a clicking around that joint when rocking the rear wheel back and forth. I have read these cars have problems with the drive shaft having dead spots but this car has 16,000 on it and hasnt been abused, i still doubt this is the issue, i just think something is a little seized from sitting through the winter. Also doesnt explain why it only grinds when the car has been driving for 30 or more mins.
