Time to refresh this thread... ;)
I think the grounding kit idea has merit, and would gladly do it myself, except I have no idea what connection points to use. FI to ground is the only one I'm sure of. Has anyone done this, or installed one of the kits? If so, can you please post more info? It chaps my hide to even think of paying over $200 for $5 worth of wire! Thanks... |
I will have some of those kits here next week. I will then read and get translation on instructions.
What we need to know: Lengths, connectors, and attach points. Will need to use braided copper cable, high copper content, low oxygen content. Just like "monster cable" for stereo speakers. Not that cheap, so price not really crazy. |
That'd be great, Zoomer... I'll look forward to seeing those connection points. But don't you think some 8-10 GA wire with proper connectors soldered on wouldn't do just about as good a job of grounding as the super-expensive Monster Cable-type stuff?
Thanks... |

any updates on what is needed for diy kit?

Actually, the skin effect you refer to isn't really a factor here...that comes into play at much higher frequencies (e.g. radio frequencies) than you're going to get on a ground wire. It sure does make it nice and easy to work with (flexibility) relative to solid core stuff, as you noted.
You can decent braided cable for this purpose for a lot less than those nutty speaker wires though. I can see where this is going...AudioQuest silver core grounding kit for your RX-8, only $1800... :-D Originally posted by canzoomer Not as good. The right wire to use is braided. MAde from lots of little strands. Current mainly flows on surface of wire, so more wires is less resistance. Braided makes it strong and flexible. You don't really want stiff wire in the way of getting at things when working on it. Soft and flexible is better. How much difference in performance? It's a little like the debates about speaker wire. |

Grounding Cables Details
I received some sets of grounding cables this week.
Part # F151-V8-600 I measured and detailed these so that people can make their own if they choose. I sell the Genuine Mazda sets with instruction for $250 Details: |
Wow, NICE Canzoomer!!! Muchas gracias for taking the time to draw and post this!!!
Thanks... |
Second that, thank you. The only thing I can think would be icing on the cake are photos with the mounting points highlighted.
Have you tried installing one? Notice any difference on idle? Thought about making kits for sale? ________ Ship sale |
Grounding Kits
Ok, as promised in this thread: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=14728
I've installed a grounding kit, using #4 wire. I too, tried what Canzoomer did with the headlights; there was a noticable decrease in the RPM's when turning on the headlights before the mod, I also turned on the A/C at full. I can happily report that there was absolutely no change in RPM's after the mod, :D I also took readings with a Fluke model 172 VOM before and after the mod, and here are the results, (all measurements are in OHMS, and there is no compensation for these readings): Fluke VOM reading with leads shorted directly : .1 Battery to : ECU : 1.5 Right Fender : 2.2 Left Fender : 2.5 Engine : .2 ECU to : Right Fender : .5 Left Fender : .7 Engine : 1.6 Engine to : Left Fender : 2.1 Right Fender : 1.6 After the Mod (this is interesting): Battery to : ECU : 1.0 Right Fender : 1.5 Left Fender : 1.2 Engine : .1 ECU to : Right Fender : .2 Left Fender : .4 Engine : 1.0 Engine to : Left Fender : 1.1 Right Fender : 1.0 All in all, whether one buys Canzoomers kit, or buys the one on ebay, or does it themselves; it is well worth it based on the numbers alone, not to mention the RPM note of earlier. I will post any noticable changes in performance when time and weather permit. -Doc  |
Too cool Doc, thanks! :D Gotta make or get me one of these...

Hmm... Me think s it's time to get off my ass and hit the hardware store tomorrow :)

Grounding Kits
Hello one and all,
I started a thread in Canzoomers Place, as a reply to the question about the grounding kit he had for sale from Mazda. Here's the thread: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=16989 This grounding mod works simply because of adding more paths for the electrons to flow through, obviously increases the electrical performance overall. It's a good, simple and fairly inexpensive mod to implement. It took me just about 45 minutes to install it on my 8, and that was including the time I took to test and verify everything. If anyone wants the link for the kit that's on ebay, you'll have to PM me. -Doc  |
Sounds like I will have to go to by some cables! After I run this by my electrical expert mate.
Thanks for the details Canzoomer! Cheers, Hymee. |

Count me in if you decide to make some up especially the ones with the golden conductors instead of the cooper ones , maybe i can give them to my wife as jewellery. ha ha ha |
FYI, you can get cable sets premade on eBay for $50.

Anyone find these on ebay? I put in multiple searches and came up empty!

Thanks for the ebay link synthtk.
|
The e-bay item sounds interesting. Any idea of how much power it adds? Has anyone tried to dyno it?
