Has anyone experienced engine damage from doing a decarbon procedure?

I searched but couldn't find anything... but has anyone here ever experienced engine damage froim doing seafoam in the engine? Last time I had my plugs out I saw a lot of soot on the rotors and I'm slightly scared of doing a de-carbon because some of that might come off and screw up the engine.

So I ask, has this happened to anyone that y'all know of?

I've never heard of anyone doing damage to the motor with a simple decarb using something like Seafoam. There are guys in the RX7 world that run water through the motor (think of it as steam cleaning) that can possibly hurt the engine if done improperly.

I would however recommend you proceed with caution if you have the OE catalytic converter on, some have suggested that a seafoam treatment could shorten the life of the cat.

if you have ever seen an engine apart, u will not be scared anymore.

The engine is covered in carbon almost all the time

and the cheapest way to clean an engine is to use water. feed it while the engine is running and watch closely to the temp. it will clean much better than the zoom zoom cleaner , but u gotta make sure u know what you are doing.

I don't know if it's carbon, but the stuff that came out with my spark plugs was not seafoam soluble.

In any case I'm doing it with seafoam and not water, my cat passed with flying colors in california 6 months ago, not too worried about that (and planning to move to washington soon, hmmm maybe I should use water?)

hooooo boy, I did as some videos did and left the hose in the seafoam bottle, then cranked it twice. Put about 3/4 of the bottle into the front rotor... should I even try and start it right now?

wait about an hour, then u start.

before you start, prepare some oil or premix to let the engine to suck it in during the initial start up, cuz after seafoam/zoom zoom cleaner your engine gonna be bone dry.

Well it started, even with 3/4 of a bottle in one rotor. I was surprised at how little smoke came out even though it was enough to be nasty. I was expecting something to rival the city of cleveland!

Not a good sign, check your oil level for "extra" Seafoam....
...and change the oil.

A mosquito truck has nothing on an RX8 cranking after a Seafoam treatment.
