Helmets and RX8's seats.

Had tons of fun on Sunday.

Question, when equipped with the helmet, anybody had a problem with head/roof clearance ?

That day I got one of those "rental" 1/2 face helmet. and I had a really hard time sitting up straight in the car. my head kept on hitting the roof of my 8.

hmm. I wonder if a Full helmet would be better ?

Or do I really need some sort of racing seat (expensive) ?

Do you have a sunroof? If so, there's your problem.

well, I could be like 5"10 with my shoes off

*sigh* ...

it could be that I didnt push my helmet all the way down cuz it did not fit well (too small, and its already a L size, I probably need XL or XXL)

hmm ... I dont want to get a 200 bux helmet then found out that I cant fit it in my car comfortably ...

even the instructor on my first run had a hard time sitting up right. he said it might be that he got used to his racing seats.

XL is Bell's largest size and Im not sure if it will fit. hmm ... which brand should I go for ? -_-

i'd only do this because we are already in a car. i would not recommend an ebay helmet for motorcycle riding.

i'm 5'4" and I just, only just, have enough space to sit up straight with my helmet from Pyrotech. I remember feeling "man, I feel sorry for other taller guys"

Yea.. I'm 6'6".. no sunroof, so that gives me a few inches.. but damn.

I'm fine without a helmet, but there's no way I could get a helmet on inside.

And it's actually got about 6 inches more headroom than my old Eclipse..

2"

I had the same problem -- sore neck after track day.

I put in a racing seat and gained about 2". Mine is a non-sunroof, but should apply to yours as well.

6' and with a sunroof. I just drive with my head angled a bit, no other cheap solutions found.

I'm the same height, tilt the seat a bit, that works for me.

Yes but in this way you sacrifice the optimal driving position. Bending the head a little is not a problem, if you don't mind having a neck ache the day after

Bro, I'm in the same boat. I can't drive a RX-8 with a sunroof; hell, I can't drive most sports cars sunroof or not! I'm literally "too tall in the saddle", height from hip to head (I'm 6'1" standing). One dealer was speechless when I sat in a BMW Z3, seat as far back as it could go, back tilted against the bulkhead, and the top of my melon pushing a bulge in the convertible top. Forget the Miata, my level eye-line is straight into the windshield bow.

Seat fully lowered, tilted slightly further back than usual, I *should* have enough room for a helmet in the "Zonk". I had the same problem with my '81 RX-7.
