I'm sure this is a simple answer.
My check engine light just came on. Scan tool is reading error....
Car is running absolutely fine and does not seem to have any problems at all.

Any ideas why? Maybe a sensor....

The computer and electrical system in the car had been revamped after water damage in 2004. No problems ever since. I really don't think it is the computer.. the car runs fine and everything electrical works perfect. I don't want to take it to a dealer and pay $80 to have it looked at and have them tell me nothing useful.

 

Use the tool to reset, and hope for more info if it reappears.

You're ok if the light isn't actually flashing.

What Scan Tool do you have it may not be compatible with the RX8's OBDII. I had an older actron scan tool that would give me an error my car so i had to go out and buy a new one. A lot of times a CEL is caused by a gad cap. Take your gas cap off and put it back on, make sure it clicks 3-5 times. If it is the gas cap it will take a few drive cycles for the light to turn off. Do you have an Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone near you some places will read the code for free.
