HELP!!! Clutch advice.
While my engine was being rebuilt, the dealer told me it would be best if I went ahead and put a new clutch in. He recommended changing the pressure plate, bearings, and disks. They said they could do it and not charge me labor, which is a life saver, because my transmission is still out of the car from the rebuild. My question is, they are going to be charging me somewhere around $680 for the new clutch assembly and rx7store has many clutch kits from ACT and Spec. I could save tons of money by buying one of these aftermarket clutches. Is this a good idea and would I be better suited to paying a couple hundred dollars more? I need to let the dealership know monday. Also would they have a problem putting in an aftermarket clutch?
BTW, I don't track the car. Just some spirited driving every once in a while.
Thanks in advance for the help.

It would b fine to put aftermarket in however i don't think the dealer will do they i'm pretty sure they have to use their own parts etc etc...but you could have another shop put it in for u but the downfall u would have to pay labor...i would see how much they are gonna charge u for the clutch kit? Then get the price on the ACT and call around to a few local places and get a total on installatino and see which one will end up being cheaper
You don't need a full out race clutch for everyday drivng even with spirited driving so if you do go aftermarket do not get full race 6 puck or u will hate driving that thing because of no give in it....
The OEM one is fine but like i said check prices on both and go from there.....and they are correct while everyting is out they might as well replace it.....but if you can save 2 or 300 dollars getting after market I would save it especially with this economy

I would definitely stay with the disk, and not change to the 6 puck. I'm going to try to call around the beginning of this coming week, and see what types of prices I can get, but I have a feeling that because I will have to pay labor at other shops, I will probably end up paying around the same amount. Ill also talk to the dealer and see what they say about installing aftermarket stuff. Ive tried it with them before and they always seem to get agitated because they are putting in stuff that isn't theirs.
