This contradicts the previous statement:
If the apex seals aren't sealing, you get poor compression. So, in order for their "65 degrees" theory to hold water, the car would have to have bad compression when cold, and good compression when warm. I would think such a diagnosis would require at least 2 compression checks (warm vs. cold) to confirm. Or, maybe they're using their vacuum thingy to make this determination?

Wayne is pretty famous, cuz its the biggest Mazda dealer.
Let us know what happen.

sansone is clueless when it comes to repairs.....you should have posted this thread locally....if you go to wayne then ask for the 2 specific rotary mechanics that work there....one has a thread here in the northeast section and the other is known as long haired dave....wayne knows thier **** and actually has mechanics there.....not dealer techs

Why do they say you need a new engine? The seals? What about the compression check?
Check out Davefzr's post in the issue forum.
They did a radiator pressure check. Fluid came out the spark plug holes.
Have them check the radiator.
By the way... I thought TSB's were suppose to be done free.

Hey TALAN, didnt get your PM till today, hoepfully i didnt miss your car yesterday and today i was stuck between a mazda6 that keeps roasting harnesses and a cx7 that i was finishing replacing the turbo so I havent had a chance to do regular work.
I'm free now so perhaps your car wasnt looked at yet and so I can go in tomorrow and pull it in and see what the real deal is.
Side note: chrism, sorry for being brief today I was ready to snap as i got stuck figuring out another tech's problem car (the 6 that keeps roasting its harnesses) so I was like 2 seconds from flipping out on the manager lol. Hopefully next time you come in Ill have a chance to talk and be able to work on your car.
Kevin.

Wayne Mazda says possibly rear rotor bad seal, need a new engine
Kevin,
Tech 9977 worked on it, know him? I picke up the cart this evening. I wonder,, could I bring it back and have you check it out? I'll only do this if you think you've seen this kind of problem before and it's fixable whithout getting a new engine.

I've been driving it. It's only been misfiring very little since it's warmed up a bit. I'm figuring once it hits about 80 degrees the misfiring may stop altogether. I bought some Idemitsu premix and ran some of that until I read that MMO has better cleaning so I added that too. I was thinking about running with MMO exclusively and not the Idemitsu. I've got 2 quarts lying around. Do you think the cleaning would help at this point? I'd certainly be willing to try!

But, there is a chance that your rotor seals are just carbon locked, causing a poor seal, thus poor compression - run the MMO for a while and see if gets any better (8 oz/tank). You may see some short term gains, but it will take 6-8 tanks to really see if it going to make any significant improvements. I would also add bottle of Gumout Regane (with the MMO) in the first tank as well as this will complement and speed up the cleaning.
If this does not help, a real rotor soak (rather than the "running the cleaner though" that it sounds like the dealer originally performed), like the MSP-16 procedure (it does not sound like this is what they did from your first post), can be tried to see if it helps.
If the two of these don't work - you can try to baby it along, but it is inevitable......

Likely worn out rotor seals - with 98k miles and no premixing previously.

Hey man,
Like I said in the pm. it could be just carbon or not.
U can try what Jax suggested. instead of using Gumout you can try Redline's stuff.
Oh I have 2 bottles of V-Power around and I dont think I will use them yet. I might as well just bring it over next week (still trying to figure which day I can come)

Got Another Rotary
Chevron's Techron, Gumout Regane, and Redline SI-1 are all Poly Ether Amine (PEA) based cleaners, perform very similarly and are very, very good.
The only one I consider better than these 3 is BG44k, but is about twice as much and a little harder to find.
V-Power is also good, but does use a different key cleaner - Tallow Alkyl Amine - same as what is used in the gasoline add-pack.

There is an rx7 shop in the jersey area, IR performance...check out their vendor section on rotarycarclub.com.
Alternately I can also offer renesis rebuilds, with warranty (to outlast mazda's that would come on a reman) and photo documentation of teardown and reassembly, for likely around half the cost of a questionable quality reman depending on what your core looks like inside. I have a customer rx8 here from virginia now, and tore down 2 renny cores in the last week so I have a few parts on hand should the need arise. For now I will not be offering any exchanges, but will build from the core you bring me.

ugh. try to help people and people get butthurt over it. Maybe you're a builder yourself who wants to keep this a secret? Hmmm?
Why not you ask? Because if I pay IB thousands of dollars in advertising a year, I won't be able to build any cheaper than mazda, will I now? I'm tired of hashing this **** out over on rx7club because of their fucked up advertising practices, I dont feel like doing it here as well.

Flame away, but Mazda should replace all motors free of charge, absent crazy mileage (150,000+) or definitive abuse or crazy mods.
That's the price of admission to be credible when it comes to taking care of the customer, especially when there is a known problem with a particular component...especially one as central to a vehicle's core purpose as a motor.
Even loathsome Toyota did this after initially refusing to regarding their sludge issue.

Hmm, I always wonder what Prestone has in their cleaners, forgot to look at their bottle "AGAIN" last night ... meh, maybe next time.

I agree since the mazda folks didnt even get the port timing consistent between rotors, they really screwed up the exhaust port, oil weep oil too small, housing coatings are a problem and the front eccentric shaft bearing is wearing out prematurely. They did do a lot of GOOD stuff--the intake is a work of art, location of exhaust ports is good, water jackets around the lead plug is good, intake ports are good.

We all argue back and forth on this forum about the reliability of the Renesis, some thinking it's flawed, some, the best piece of engineering to exist. The real problem is that even with proper maintenance these engines fail far more early. I used to ignore the people who complained till it happened to me. Many have thier heads stuck in the sand with ideas like that only happens to 04s and 05s. That type of division is exactly what Mazda wants from us.
How about we all come together and write something, sign something, whatever we have to do to get Mazda to treat us owners with some respect. What if thousands of us at the same time wrote to the BBB or Consumer Reports and to Mazda. How about instead of worshiping Mazda at Sevenstock we came with a signed petition stating we aren't happy with how Mazda NA is treating us owners. How about we let every magazine know these engines fail and that it took Mazda 5 years to finaally address this issue in the new cars at the same time opening a new facility just to remanufacture renesis rotary engine to make money off of us owners. I guess Mazda sees that factory as a revenue maker. mazda would sell you a new engine every week if they could get away with it.

I think the engine is fine by design, there are a few *bugs*, but its nothing major AS LONG AS people dont listen to Mazda's 5w20 bull crap, errmmnm I mean Ford's Bull crap.
Check Ford forums, pay special attention to those engine that use 5w20 ... u'll know where the problem is.

i vote for mazmart because they have been nothing but good to me unlike some people like above who think everyone should just listen to them because they **** on a golden toilet seat.
