![Question](https://www.rx8club.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
In tryng to keep my teenage son as well as others from my car i want to instal a cut out switch for the fuel line , so unless this swicth is activated the car wont start .
Iunderstandthat the rx8 uses a returless fuel system, and that fuel comes directly from the pump there is no fuel regulator and no fuel return line .
Any help appreciated .

Don't know how the '8' is, but for what it's worth, this is what I did in a similar situation on my jeep -
(on the jeep, the fuel pump power wire went under the trim alongside the drivers seat) find the power wire, cut into it, and insert a magnetic alarm switch, from a window alarm system ($6 at Radio Shack) this switch only makes contact when the magnet is near it. Magnet stays on carpet, under seat. No magnet, no fuel. Only you know where the magnet sits - worked for me!

I did something similar in my neon (yes you can laugh) but instead of the fuel line I did a switch to the little sensor behind the clutch pedal so when it's off the computer thinks the clutch pedal is not press in so the car wouldn't start. It might be a little easier since it's a lot easier to get to. Or, better yet you can do both the clutch pedal and fuel.

It would be sad to see an RX-8 on the side of the road, full tank of gas, because the home-brew security measure somehow failed. Good luck and wire wisely.

Is this title ok?
For safety, there should be a backup or an override switch which normally be off and be hidden in a secret location and hard to reach place. If the regular switch ever failed or you lost the key, you can always find the override switch and drive home. Also, you wouldn't want to tell the valet guy that you have a fuel cut switch! Then again, I don't think anyone would valet their RX8 :D
IMO, clutch switch will not do since the car can be start by pushing. I'm sure they'll have their buddies with them when they are trying to steal your car. This only work if you don't want your family members to drive :p

I would agree that a clutch interlock cutout would be better than something on the fuelpump, unless you had the magnetic switch working a relay which only required a momentary on to stay connected. Seems like those little magnetic reed switches just wouldnt cope with the full load and could give out on you which could be quite dangerous.
Plus, if you're really worried about your kids push-starting your car because they know you've done something to prevent them from cranking it over, I would be more worried about the kids. I'd start by just clearly telling them that you dont want them to drive it. Are teens these days really so bold/disrespectful as to do something like that?
Oh - yeah - I have no kids so feel free to ignore the second paragraph entirely.
Simon.
