Cool How to make your stock air box sound like MS CAI

hey guys i was recently talking to a mate who works at Mazda here in Australia and it turns out you can easliy make your RX8 sound like the MS CAI in seconds!!! simply just unclip your stock air box and rest the hinges on the panel filter so there is about a 2 cm gap between the opening.. in simple terms the airbox is basicly open by 2cm therefore sucking in more and and sounding awesome!!!

wouldn't that defeat the purpose of the filter? and harm your engine?

basicly yes but its a easy and moneyless quick fix to a great sounding rx8. harming the engine? no not really but it will get ur MAF sensor dirtier quicker. so a reguallar clean of the MAF sensor and uve got no problems as such.

Yea...it won't harm your engine until some sand gets sucked up in there...heaven forbid a stone or bug. To do that you would have to have some serious *****. Why not stick with the usual removing of the airbox baffles and locking the vfad open?

Yeah thats a fair enough point.. but how is sand or bugs goin to get in.. do the steps i have listed and check out for your self.. it is virtually impossible for anthing to get in there unless u have sand floating around your engine bay.. the filter still works in the way it should but the top end of the airbox being open just alows more air in for a greater sound

Dust is abrasive too, plus you would be sucking hot air, hence less power.
Wow, tell your mate that works at Mazda to switch to a lawnmower company!

Uhmm...sand and dirt gets kicked up by cars all the time around here...and I do live in Cleveland where Midgies rule 50% of the year with the other 50% being owned by snow.

As to your argument...opening the airbox and letting air in around the airfilter for more sound at the cost of a new engine is just insane. Yes...it will be louder right up until you hear those marbles bouncing around that can. You can get a similar noise level by doing what I said and not risk your engine, and void your warranty which your friend already did btw. So stop trolling and move on already.

lol its funny how use seem to be objecting the idea.. if you get ur RX8 serviced at mazda then there doing the quick and easy solution to more air flow and greater sound when they take your car for a nice quick thrash!!!! its a fact ive seen it and have been told cant prove it when i saw them doin it to my car.. i couldnt believe it was my car at the start because it sounded different. mazda just claims there taking certain procedures with your engine to see how it runs under certain circumstances.

with air passing into the intake without going through the filter YOU ARE GOING TO GET DIRT/SAND/BUGS something in there....Ppl that live near beaches know there is just sand everywhere....ppl that live or travel dirt roads or even wher they do construction....yeah it may sound "cool" (which i doubt prob just ricey) but eventually you're going to score up your bearing/rotor/housing and due catastrophic damage....

How/why is it you suppose the MAF gets "dirtier quicker"?

Hey, OP! I work at Mazda and the best way to get power is to put 10 table spoons of sugar into your gas tank. The sugar will act as an agent that will enhance horse power. Try it.

I say we encourage him to just open it all the way, since he thinks there is no way for anything to get in there,,,

just remove the intake completely, and use PVC piping to route the intake to the driver side window, then you'll get a nice wooshing sound like it's a super turbocharger.

i retail it for 300$! The extra oil residues left by the chips lubricate and accelerate the air making it a super-duper-charger intake!
