this HUGE list of 2004 rx8 factory defects... will they fix it all?
#26
Hmm... So, I just took my car to the dealership because both my Visors were cracked and broken... and I thought why not get the reflash. But, he just called and told me they couldn't reproduce the problem, so they weren't going to fix it/do the reflash. Please don't tell me I have a lazy dealership. I understand, why would they waste time if there's not a problem, but I thought the MSP16/Lack of Power reflash was a big deal and performed without question...
Ugh...

Ah well, such is the life of an RX-8 owner..

That is literally what I said. They said Mazda is super strict about doing any warranty work, so they had to reproduce the problem before they did anything. So they put about 35 (hard) miles on my car, "testing" it out. Using 1/4 of my tank.. haha..

Wow the dealership in Stockton, CA is way better than that. If they ever use a significant amount of gas like a 1/4 of a tank, they fill my car up all the way. I usually take it in their with no gas, hoping they will fill it up. Works sometimes. And they never question any factory work. They seem very carefree about doing work under the factory warranty. I think your dealership sucks.

I call them mechanics...Lawn Mower Mechanics
Seriously some have a trade some don't, a lot depends on the dealer and area, many guys don't want to work on rotaries because they don't want to understand them.

Also 'Techs' capable of doing a Rotary rebuild would command a higher salary than someone that can just follow the steps listed in an TSB. Take engines for example. If dealers could do their own rebuilds they could keep 1-2 engines in stock. The turn around on a swap would be 2 days. Then just rebuild that motor for the next customer. Instead Mazda puts you in a rental for 2-3 weeks while an engine is shipped cross country. But when Mazda is the one paying the bill they get to make the rules.

Yes, in the 70's we used to do many per year, and all done at the dealer, the issue then was Coolant Entry before the Carbon Apex Seals wore out..
You really don't need many special tools to do a re-build...even a rotary, just a dedicated Mechanic who enjoys doing it, and I have not seen one who does not once they learn the process..
There is something "special" about building a rotary, installing it, and firing her up.
Where is Charles...
