huge power loss... help!!!

ok so yesterday my buddy put 2 quarts of 10-30w synthetic oil in my car since it was low on oil..and the car drove fine till he returned the car .. when i started driving it.. i felt a major power loss for some reason . when i flored it it felt lyk the car wanted to slowdown over n over... and then every time i rev it a weird sound comes from right where the headers sit.. n it sounds like a lawnmower..it sounds like my headers (greddy) have a crack in it and i can barely hear anything out of the exhaust(also greddy) ...but im not sure if its cracked.. i wanted to no if ayone could help me figure out wht the noise could be and what is causing the power loss.. and if the oil is causing this or not

Did he fool around with your car? Does the car idle normal? What rpm range does problems become more apparent or is it the whole rpm range? Any CELs?

Pretty sure the oil unlikely to have cause this.

One of Pettit Racing's tips:

Never let anyone drive your car! Over the years, many customers have come to regret this decision.

^..............words to live by!
My car is just about 5 years old now, and one time only did someone else drive it, and that was only into the bay in order to put new rims/tires on and we had a nice long discussion before that happened.

To the OP..............you said you put two qts. in, did it need that much, or did you just dump in two qts? Have you checked it?
Is it possible that you overfilled it and now it's run into the intake, oiled that crap out of the filter and has fouled the MAF?

On another note.....it may not be the oil at all..........could you classify this noise as a helicopter sound? I remember there is/was a thread similar to this, so you might want to search using the word helicopter and see what pops up?

^ I even transport my 8's rims in my Jeep when getting new tires.

Only once let a friend drive and he curbed two rims.

OP: concur - possibly too much oil and you've now got some excess in the intake accordian and have fouled your MAF. If the MAF is sending a bogus reading to the ECU it can have a significantly [bad] effect on the performance.

Are you sure about that?

I might be wrong but i'd be willing to bet that he knows that he fucked your car, and just doesn't want to admit it. I know this rant doesn't help your situation, but I hate it when people don't own up and take responsibility.

True, it's best not to lend anyone your 8, and i'm sure you've learnt that lesson, but it would be nice to think that your 'friend' is gonna respect your property.

Tell him that to find out what the problem is, you need to know exactly what he was doing when the noise/power loss started, then send his retarded *** a big fat bill when you've managed to get it sorted.

2 quarts is a lot of oil to add to an 8. At 2 quarts your stick is dry and you have to pause in the middle to get all the oil down to the pan before you measure again. Odds are you overfilled it and screwed up your intake. remove your intake back to the SSV and clean it out with a bunch of rags. Then clean off your MAF with contact cleaner and inspect your air filter to make sure it isn't damaged as well. Once you are done check your oil level and drain what is necessary so you don't gum it all up again when it gets hot.

They have to pull it off and look inside. That's the only way to check.

IF the oil was fine when you lent it out... your friend beat the **** out it as you will only loose oil at that rate when you are consistently at Redline on the track.

The cat has a 8yr/80K mile warranty. If it is within this period, get it replaced. Then get the midpipe and store the cat for a rainy day.

The only thing that matters is the part of your exhaust that actually yields decent HP gains still hasnt been replace ;-)

Get a midpipe and store the cat for emissions. I just busted my cat out of storage this month to get the test done.

Do you have an accessport or anything of that nature? If not, expect a CEL with a midpipe, unless you go with a supercat of some sort...

The cat is warrantied by federal law. Yes, they should replace it. However, some dealers won't unless there is a code in the ecu.

Your car has a 80K mile emissions warranty, if your cat is toasted, they WILL cover it.
