I hear Louisiana has got a great deal on oil right now. It should work just fine. Just filter the sand and fish out.

I read that petroleum based lubricants damage latex so i'd stick to something glycerin based!

You need VTEC oil.

GR6 oil works just as well.

Bang for Buck, this brand of oil works the best.

I'm sure the OP feels slighted with all the jest, but he/she should realize that after seven years this topic, as most others, has been discussed to death. Why are the current crop of noobies so seach-lazy????

Giving a straight comment probably violates forum rules, but...

You check every other gas fillup. You read the dipstick to determine how much.

Also, check the owner's manual to see exactly what Mazda says about the grade of gas and oil. If you don't get the manual with your car (or even if you do) you can download a pdf from mazdausa.com. Knowing what Mazda says is a really good baseline before you start driving yourself nuts sorting out what everyone here says.

this is correct right?

Unlike some, I won't be a dick and give you a sarcastic response.

Major brand dino oil is all basically the same. Stick with Castrol or Valvoline and you'll be fine. Depending on your climate, the consensus is to run 10w30 or 10w40. The "recommended" 5w20 is too thin. Mazda just recommends it so they can make their CAFE numbers for the ****'s at the EPA.

I don't recommend checking oil during a fill up, mainly because the oil levels will be wrong since it hasn't had time to settle in the pan. Others will disagree, but that's their opinion. I check mine after the car has been sitting for several hours and do so once every few weeks.

If the level has dropped a noticeable amount (say, 1/4 to 1/2 inch on the dipstick), just put in a little, check the level, and repeat until you get near full. Don't go over though...

I would say that I top mine off twice between oil changes. And yes, oil change every 3000 miles.
