identity disorder - rx8 thinks it has a cammed v8
the title says it all.
it hunts for idle like no other. although it sounds pretty cool, like a very leanly tuned engine at the drag strips, it really bothers me, especially when it stalls out.
if you guys need a video, i can post it. but i'd like to hear your thoughts beforehand.
other pertinent info:
i uninstalled my custom (teamrx8) intake and i uninstalled the accessport. still installed is the turboxs headerback. no change. also, cleaned MAF with carb cleaner.
i noticed this happening when i got my car back from the body shop (mr. spoiler) but they deal with rotaries a lot. could it be fouled plugs?
it has hunted at first start up for about 6 months now. but now its any time at idle. especially when its just coming off significant load.
it goes from 800 to 500 to 800 to 500 to 800 to 400 to 800 to 300 then stays at 1300 for a bit, then drops down to 1000, to 500, to 800 and repeats. or something like that.
PCM threw a lean code.
im hoping the plugs are fouled and when there isnt enough load on the engine they arent sparking enough to keep it going. but still, thats $80 and i just changed them a last year. or do i have to go to a dealership?

what was the lean code p2187, p2177, p0171? any maf codes? i'm guessing since you swap out an intake back to stock you may have forgotten the small vac hose that runs from udner the manifold to the stock box, but thats just a random dart at the board at this point.
also is it drivable or no power? or is the idle hunt the only issue?
kevin.

i forgot what the code number was. :/ if its still up, i'll check, but i dont know since i reflashed it back to stock.
i have that vac hose thing capped on the manifold.

interesting.
when i come to stop and it starts hunting, usually two small revs to 1500 rpm will cause it settle at 1k and then it will stay there just fine. does that sound like the neutral safety switch?
