I'm an idiot...

So I was topping off my oil as suggested by mazda....and didn't realize I had purchased 5w-30 until after putting the whole quart in....help? Is this ok? Luckily I am going to the dealership tomorrow anyways for some warranty work...should I have them change the oil out of just go the next 1,000 miles?

it is not the end of the world.. oil is oil.

i've mixed 10w50 with 5w30.

i wouldn't make a habit of it.. but seriously don't worry about it.

to help emissions and to conform to EPA regulations (crappy ones at that) and for a VERY marginal increase in gas mileage.

i live with 5w30 royal purple (syn) all year round

k, i think we were being nice, but it's time for you to search
there's plenty of threads on synthetic vs non.. really it comes down to who you believe
if you can think of a question, its probably been answered, so search is your friend.

i think castrol is the worst thing you can buy after viewing recent tests... plus it just looks so watery. i would use mobil one 5-30, 10-30 or 10-40. depending on where you live.

yes, please give us links
i'll give you one for mobil 1
http://www.jobbersworld.com/December%2011,%202008.htm

btw, not knocking on mobil, as i use their 2stroke for premix. just showing "tests" can be misleading

Maybe you are right, Castrol is not as good as mobil, I personaly dont know. but from the hours I spent here reading in the Forums, I came to understand Synthetic oil is not good for our RX8. And 5w-20 is too thin from what I read. I also change the oil every 1500 miles... which People think im crazy for, and make fun of me by telling me things like " HEy man, thats not a lambo" . o.. well... Take care of what u have and it all last a lifetime.

Mobil 1 doesn't mix well with fuel so it lubricates the seals less than other oils.
You should search a bit but i think that somebody can remember the thread!
