Immobilizer problem...but not really
So I had a fun little 1 hr hair ripping session today on the side of Hwy 4 attempting to head to school
Going an undisclosed speed, my car suddenly died when I hit the rev limiter by accident. I pulled off of the freeway and was boggled by what was wrong
Guages still worked, stereo ok, hazards, etc. Everything worked but when I tried to turn the key, nothing happened. No cranking.
I did notice that the immobilizer indicator light was not turning off when I put my key in, I have an 04 with a switchblade key programmed to it. I figured that the chip may have failed in the key and thats why it wouldnt start. I called my friend to bring my original spare
No luck. still wouldnt start. I checked a few key fuses, all the mains (30a+) and the ignition system fuse. All good.
So, thanks to my handy dandy iphone I was able to scour the forum for a bit to locate an answer.
I wasnt able to get an exact same senario but one thing was clear, 99 percent of the similar cases were blown fuses. Out of ideas and contemplating a tow truck I decided to check every single last fuse, before making the call
Three fuses in, I found it, the ECM2 fuse I believe it was. Salvaged the one from my AC system (same 10A) and it fired right up.
I conclude that when my engine went lean from the rev cut it misfired causing a volt/amp spike and blew the fuse, usually when I accidentally hit my rev limiter it goes lean, misfires, and throws a CEL.
Lucky for me it blew the fuse and not the 1500 dollar ECM, PCM or whatever it is on the 8
Saved me a load of money on a tow bill. Just thought I would share, as my exact senario was not able to be found. Hope this helps
Symptoms of a Immobilizer failure but it turned out not to be the case.
And to you who want to criticize me for hitting the rev limiter on my car. Its MY car, what you do with YOUR car is YOUR business
Thanks

usually it occurs without issue, just sputters a bit and bounces back.
But now that I think about it, sometimes when I forget after I wash my car my filter gets a little wet (CAI) and it boggs, goes rich, and misfires, throws a CEL which resets on its own after two starts
I did just wash my car before it happened yesterday, but, when I checked the filter it was slightly damp, definitely not wet, maybe a combination of the two are to blame
In any event, just wanted to share my experience, if you have a symptom similar to this, its most likely a fuse, checkem all before calling a two truck

I too have experienced bogging from a wet filter.
You should clean the MAF after this happens.
And also remove the intake tubes because water collects on the couplings and just "rests" there (assuming you have AEM or MS CAI).
