inside the air box
yesterday i bought a k&n drop-in airfilter and i installed it, and when i took it apart i noticed something wierd. Inside there, there are two walls on each side of the horn, and i was wondering what they are there for and if it would make a difference on air flow if i took them out? Btw, i give the k&n air filter a 5 out of 5. It did pretty good. I like the sound it gives the engine, and the powerband seems smoothened out while kicking in around 2k rpm. If you need pics i will post them.

He's as bad as Can
The OEM airbox is a well designed unit, I wouldn't expermeint with it unless you have an extra one lying around. Best case scenario 1-2 HP above 7,000 RPM with a poorer idle and more noise.

By the way, your intake sound will sound a lot louder with the walls are gone. I don't think they're there not for airflow but for sound deadening. For example, look at racing beat's design... it basically is the same airbox with a filter relocated onto the intake pipe and the walls are gone. The box itself is the same size as the OEM one. You can take out the OEM filter and use a dome filter and just clamp it on. I'm pretty sure you'll get the exact same gains as the Racing Beat intake.

ok, the pics dont work, not right format, but i did take out the little walls, and it is a little louder intake sound, especally with the windows closed. Since you were wondering about the screens, i took out the one right behind the horn, leaving the screen farther up the tube which is right ahead of the MAF. For all of you that want a little increase in power, and an increase in the intake sound, and only costing 50 bucks, its worth it. btw, i also changed my oil and used Royal Purple synthetic 5w30, and my engine loves it. It revs a little easier. oh and, when i took out my old filter, it was bad. The filter is supposed to be white or pink, and in the center of mine it was black, so it REALLY needed to be changed. I did also notice and increase in gas mileage. peace.

i have only gotten RB's air ram as seeing the revi display in person at SSX past month was essentially a nicer done version with the inner "ridges" in the box absent and no plates. i already removed the plates as i rechecked the the k&n filter and noticed the dirty areas are concentrated. like CRH said, running without would spead more surface area. and i just don't want the filter to always get dirty/clogged flow in the same concentrated area.
if i would even waste my time modding the stock intake further... i would prolly only cut the air flow ridges thats running horizontally on the top side of the box to match the straighter flowing ones on the sides if you know what i'm sayin'.
