insulated oil pan
Well as the title says---i insulated my oil pan. Why?
I have thought for awhile now that the oil pan we have is overcooling. The pan is in a direct stream of air, its shallow and thin. I see a rapid cooling of the oil in the pan after parking for even a short while.
I was tried of the white milky stuff and was having trouble getting my oil temps up without blocking the coolers.
It worked. No more white stuff.
Temps are not any higher--but the oil stays warmer much longer after parking and it also seems to warm faster?
All subjective i know. I didnt do it in a scientific way for posting. Should have.
But Its easy to do and easy to remove if you want.
Thought it may be something for others to think about
The 09 removed the oil pan (made it larger with a part near the header??!!) from direct air flow by adding that protective plate.
Maybe i should just get that plate?
OD

OD, didn't you perform the Mazmart oil pressure mod and it increased your oil temps. I can see this as being usefull for us during the winter in the Great White North. But, for year around use? It could also cause a clearance problem.

I know yall think I am an idiot ----but i am an idiot having fun.
Yes i installed the regulator mods and yes temps did slightly rise--especially from cold start up.
I just dont think an on the road oil temp of 160-170 is hot enough. (I am getting that on a 70F day) after driving 20 miles I can then park and turn the car off ---come back in 5-10 minutes and the oil temps will be less than 100F on start up. Coolant will be warmer than that. Hell at Road Atlanta a few weeks ago with ambients in the high 50's my oil temps never got over 180F!
I dont think the oil is getting hot enough.
The oil is rapidly cooling when the engine is off. With the condensation problem some are having i wondered if that was a good thing? Rapid cooling is sometimes not a good thing?
Now the 09 oil pan is bigger by a little--closer to the exhaust header (why--they could have designed it differently) and the plate over it does help air flow and offer more protection--but could it also play a role is keeping the oil pan warmer--that could fall in line with putting part of the pan near a heat source couldnt it?
It doesnt really cause a clearance problem as i just used some hard foam insulation for now.
adds maybe 1/2"?
Call me crazy---but some need to question and wonder about things more. I may be wrong totally and thats Ok--cause i have still learned something. Like i am really really stupid for thinking that
