Insulation above the transmission?
In the many DIY posts about improving AC performance there is no mention of how hot the center console gets. I hadn't thought about it until this summer when I had a Chap Stick beside the cigarette lighter that completely melted.
One partial solution would be to put insulation under the top of the console from under the ash tray to the cup holders.
I've searched but I found no mention of this issue.
Do you think sheet insulation would survive if it was attached above the transmission?
There are water proof spray insulations that would be ideal, but I have no idea if they are tough enough to survive.
Have any of you tried to protect the center console from transmission heat?

I was disappointed with how long it took to cool the car after it had been sitting in the hot summer sun. I put hot water pipe insulation on the long pipe from the AC compressor and that really helped...dropped the output air by 8 degrees and cycled the compressor.

I got it through Summitt racing. Its a DEI heat shield that has self adhesive. I didnt fully trust the self adhesive so i alos placed several short self tapping metal screws in it also. Put it right on top of the aluminum oem shield.
For the exhaust pipe--i used a dei catylictic converter heatshield and used wire ties to secure it. only wrapped it one hal way around--left the very bottom of the pipe open to air.
Even the cup holders are now cool.
