Just got back from the Dealer
I went in to get my regular oil change and I have this grinding sound at the top of my 1st gear. (I have an automatic
)
I let the tech ride in my car so I could show him what I was talking about. He gets underneath my car and notices that my catalytic converter is way to hot and he tests the temp and it was about 360 F. He ordered me and new one and told me it wasn't uncommon ( Which I think is bull)
Anyway, I was experiancing loss of power/acceleration and I hope this fixes the noise too. I am getting the new one put on tomorrow.

I'll bet Mazda WISHES the converter ran @350f
Some test show them over 1600f at idle.

I just don't see how the catalyst can cause a noise at high RPM in 1st gear and not in each gear, at the same RPM. In which case it is probably clogged.... power loss, hesitation, etc.

Forgive my if I am wrong but doesn't the temp of the catalyitic converter increase drastically if the engine is running lean. Could be an indication of something else that is wrong.

Ok, They installed, My car feels like the day I got it.
Now..I drove about 8 miles home and I smell a burning smell...Is it normal for one to smell like that when its new?

Car is making the same noise again after 2 weeks. I'm pissed...its going back in tomorrow morning.
My car idles rough again and gets horrible gas milage again...I was getting real decent numbers for the first week or so then it dwindled down.
I get a grinding/plastic flapping noise in automatic mode in the top of the first gear....IT has trouble swiching from 1st to 2nd gear.
I dont get it when I use the shift stick though.
I want a manual so bad...
