Just had a major problem (update)

Alright guys, I just rolled 32,000 miles..

After getting off the Eway, coming up to a light and merging onto a 55mph street. I ran the Rpms to 6k and noticed histation so I slowed down then sprinted back up to 6k and gave just a lill more., and it started cutting the fuel off reaching 7-8k the engine light starting flashing, signaling miss fire..

I slowed quicky. light went off and seemed fine. I was like wth is going on... So I kept crusing around not going past 6k freard it would cut out.

Rember I dont race up to high Rpm's .. I later wanted to see if I could bring the rpms up past 6.. So I did, and light started flashing again. Miss fire.. come on whats going on here.. again quicky slowed down and light went off...

I did one more try and same thing,..only thing now the light is always on and still can not go bas 6 k with out miss firing...

I wont be able to get to a dealer till the 26th.. Im on the other side of my state and theres not a mazda dealer for 140 miles...

The car starts fine., Idles fine... runs great but is suffering past 5.5-8k.

Iv had the cat replaced with the TBS.
Other then that no other problems in the life of the 32k miles.

Anyone can give me some input..

Know anyone with the CAN reader so they can pull your code?

I've seen something similar in another 8...it was a third stage air intake failure. They continued driving and to the best of my knowledge encountered no serious damage to the engine. They drove from Denver to Salt Lake City to get home

Check for burn marks around the high coils. If that's what it is just stay under 6k till they are replaced.

Thanks guys for the help. I'll look at the coils tmw. See what I have.. so far nothing seems wrong just at high RPM's...

Still starts on first grank and idles perfect.

Well as soon as I get to the dealer, I'll let ya all know what my problem really is..

Happened to me early this year. They replace something on the intake. I can't remember what it was. ARB valve or something like that.

Doesn't sound like you'll cause any damage by continuing to drive it gently, however be aware that the computer records the amount of miles driven with the CEL light on. I'd maybe contact the dealer and book the car in for early next month when you can have the recall work done at the same time. You are aware of the pending recall?

Gomez.

^hehe there are about 37 threads about it :D...shor version...they willput a heat shield to prevent possible damage to your wiring and possibly your fuel tank due to heat while idling the car fo rprolonged periods of time.

well guys, check light is still on.. but Im now thinking I had bad gas... Just makes me think... I finaly ran out of the tank I filled up before I left last week. Now 20miles into the new tank Im thinking I should try and raise the RPM's..

So not going WOT yet, just a medium presssure, it went right up with out cuttting out..

Drove around for a while.. then driving back to the hotel jumped on the freeway and tested it out.. Well went up to 6k shifted went up to 7k shiifted went up to 9k, shifted and slowed down.. well well well,., how can it just fix it self..

So my newest guess is that I had a full tank of bad gas that messed her up. but the check engin light is still scarying me

On the other side, I did call service and set up for me to come in.. I told them all whats going on...

I little water will cause that. It saturates the sock around the fuel pump causing a fuel flow restriction. The result is a fuel pressure drop at high revs causing a lean misfire condition. If this is the case you will get a flashing CEL that will coincide with the misfire. If it's just temporary, the CEL goes away. If it last for any amount of time it will change to a solid CEL that will also clear after a number of error free cycles. So, yes, it can heal itself as the water clears from the sock. The code will still be stored in the ECU regardless and can be read on your next service. Sometimes there is still permenent damage to the coils though which can occur whenever lean misfire occurs.

Fixed

Well guys... The 8 is back..

Things done while in service.

Changed all 4 spark plugs
Oil Change
Flashed PCM
Changed Plug wires
Full circle service
Added coolant to top her off

The cel light went on because #2 rotor missed fired
All plugs in rotor 1 and rotor 2 were changed based on build up from missfire
PCM fashed to lastest

Runs as new..

Are you sure it is a misfire or ping. I was told that if the CEL flashes it means a problem with the cat.

depends what the cel flashes for. it does flash for a misfire you need to check the codes that are stored.

flashing cel on any car is misfire.

It was the first cel in 20,342 miles from what my PMC read.

ofcourse everything was under warrenty still. The tech guys there are very good on my 8.

"Full circle service" what is that?

So basically they flashed you and give you new plugs...did they give you the new hotter ones?
