length of transmission??

hey there, im doing a custom swap in my 8 and i am trying to figure out between two transmissions which will sit more properly with the shifter in the cabin.

so if someone with a MT rx8 that has it outside of the car or if its possible to make measurements with the tranny installed, i need to know the answer to 2 questions...

1. length of transmission from where it bolts up to motor to the driveshaft...

2. length of transmission where it bolts up to motor to the shifter where it sits in the cabin(MAIN question really)...

thank you very much i need to know as soon as possible,

chris

If you're doing the swap, why don't you measure it for yourself. There's more to it than length, and you're gonna find you'll need those measurements as well.

Depending on where you place the new engine these measurements are most likely going to be completely useless, as it's very likely that the new engine is not going to sit in the same position as the renesis.

You'll also probably have to have a custom driveshaft made.

If you can't figure out things as simple as this aspect of the build you're most likely not going to be able to complete this swap on your own.

if You're putting a rx8 6 speed, in an rx8, then use the stock mounts/driveshaft... don't over complicate it.

i had an AT the shifter is connected to the transmission by a rod and i cant get a proper est. on top of that i already have the tranny and motor pulled already.

i have the measurement of the tranny itself but i wanted to make sure it was exactly the same as the MT...

thanks for your input but it is precisely why i need to know the measurements from the motor to the shifter so i can figure out not only where im placing the motor (more forwards or back or at all but thats highly unlikely) and i need to know the length to the shifter so i can choose between the two transmissions i have options for.

i know i need a custom driveshaft (least of my worries atm)

and it is exactly why i asked this question so that i can get an answer. im trying to keep my build confidential or id just state what im doing. dont underestimate me or underdog me cause im not filling you in on the full details. and there is no reason to attempt to put me down on my build.

thanks for your help.

thanks i would haha but im not using the rx8 transmission/mounts/driveshaft... going with something that holds out a little more of a beatttinggg without altering stock internals and therefore saving money... somehow tho i think lately im spending more then i would have if i j got a stupid rx8 MT lol but it is what it is im WAY past the point of return but im enjoying myself and i like building something more unique than most..

LOL I'm not tying to put you down or under estimate you in anyway, I'm simply stating a fact. If you can't figure out this simple part of the swap on your own, you're going to have some difficulty completing your build. Figuring out engine position and fabricating mounts is the easy part of this.

Anyway, take it however you want, Good Luck with your build!

well then im sorry, the way you stated it sounded a bit d*ck lol ...it would be quite simple if i had a MT but liek i said before i have a AT and the shifter isnt attached normally.

i simply need to know this so i can place motor in correct spot.

when you dont know something, you ask no matter how little or stupid.. without a MT this answer just can not come from me..

funny, it seemed fucked from the factory when Mazda put a renesis motor in the rx8!

im making the improvement to the car.

however people i stated my question nicely and proper, if you want to bash on what seems like a stupid question go ahead and keep the comment to yourself cause i really dont care to read it... honestly i dont understand why this community cant do a helping favor for another fellow member of the rx8 community? is it necessary to be that ignorant? you all act like i own a god damn civic..

i dont have a MT sorry, i never have owned a MT. i cant pull these measurements out of my *** to answer a simple question.

but its going to be funny when someone wants to say how great of a swap it is.. dont be surprised if i make you look like a fool when no one wanted to help me with something so simple.

thanks.

It's not that it's a stupid question it's just that in my opinion it doesn't really apply. If you want to keep the stock shifter position, then you'll align the new transmission and that will dictate your engine position. Then again the particular engine you're planning on using may not fit where the transmission is placed in this situation(ie: interference with the firewall etc.), there are a lot of factors here, that was my point.

But I guess it could help some in choosing a Transmission, If you really think it will help I have a Series 2 RX-8 Transmission in my garage right now, I'll try to get the measurements for you within the next few days.

its 27' 1/2 inch's from the front of the trans to the shifter
BTW: the measurement was from the front of the trans to the shifter, and it was in 3rd gear not neutral
