List of parts required for manual conversion

Hi all,

I have a 04 4AT Type-E and wanting to do conversion to 6MT.
I have a recked 6MT to take parts from.
I know i need the engine, transmission complete with clutch pedal & ECU...

Anything else i need to take from the engine bay or somewhere else?

I did a search but no listings of parts was actually given, only suggestions in those threads were to trade in for 6MT.

i think the reason they suggested trading it in, is because it would be much cheaper to trade it in, than to convert
after reading your WHOLE statement(lol) i see you have a 6MT to scavenge... hmm it MAY be possible to convert for cheaper than trade in, but i still doubt it. like all the other treads said, you have a 4 port auto.. so even if you pulled it off, you'll have a less powerfull car than any other 6M/T, thats pretty bad. You also would have to find a new ECU, and i dont know how that would work, the ECU for 6M/T trannys wouldnt run a 4 port auto properly...

so i still say trade, you'll have a LOT of obstacles to come across otherwise
wow after further reading, i see that you are already considering swapping motors/ECU etc.. you'll also have to change the final drive gears(i think). and even if not, swapping motors and everything else that will go with... still cheaper to trade. whew! i think i read your WHOLE post this time

hmmm...im pretty confused on your post...i have a recked 6MT at my disposal...so no cost for the parts...only labour charges to install the 6MT engine + 6MT transmission + 6MT ECU....to my current 4AT...

when u said final gears...im lost there...

Your not going to find much help here because no board member has ever done this. I don't even think a ECU swap has ever been done. In fact there have been owners that have had their ECU shipped back to Mazda to work on. If the ECU could be exchanged why would mazda do this? You have 2 options part out the 6MT and put the money towards buying a 6MT. The other is be the first one to do this swap and slove all the yet to be discoverd problems.

final drive is the same (for 4port ATs and 6MTs, the 6port ATs have a lower(numerically) FD).

you will need the CF driveshaft though. Honestly, everyone recommends trading because it would be easier and much cheaper (even with the trade-in hit). The obvious bits for the swap are easy to determine, but the subtle bits are the ones that'll screw you. You'd likely need the whole CAN bus from the 6MT, a new guage cluster, etc. A 5MT swap may be easier, but even then, the electronics may interfere.

I don't think anyone has delved that deep into a swap. If you do go ahead with it, document everything for the good of Rx-8-dom .

Dont waste your time.

Sell the savage 6MT parts out, and use that Money to trade your AT in for a MT.

Not only does it saves you ALOT of time, and it saves you from doing *something wrong* too.

If you have too much time to waste then ... go ahead.

I will only suggest you to do a trade in.

Also, if the 6mt has TCS/DSC and the AT does not, you'll have to install all the sensors and wiring for that, otherwise you'll be driving around in open loop with a check engine light on constantly. Either way to change it over you really need both cars in the garage where you can get to them at the same time, plus a good relationship with your Mazda dealer to get parts that were damaged in the wreck.
