Is it okay to run on rotarys? I know that Gumout can't be used on rotarys or turbo engines..

So what about Lucus upper cylinder cleaner? about 3oz to 10 gal.

Yes, But where did you read that Gumout could not be used on rotarys? Post the link. I like to use BG44K or Redline fuel system cleaner.

There seem to be a lot of supporters of Lucas mainly from thous of us who use premix

There have been a few suspicions about maybe Lucas UCL mixing poorly with other premixes and maybe causing the fuel filter to gum up, especially if you run your tank bone dry before adding. If you're not using another premix, shouldn't be a problem.

I would'nt use Gumout on a continual or too regular of a basis as it will harm your oil films inside the engine.

oh yeah, and the gumout, when I was working for walmart auto tech section (boo)...We had a meeting with like 5 other walmart stores and they took us through a slideshow presentation and they were talking about Gumout...It had rotarys and turbo engines as a no go...I was the only person in a room of like 100 people that asked..."how come you can't use Gumout on a rotary?"...He answered, I dont know..

...everyone there were such retards...sigh..

but there is some good news, thats in the past now.

I have used Lucas UCL since day one on this motor (9,000 miles) and it works better than the Pennzoil I used for a couple tanks because I was getting a lot of smoke and smell (I'm catless) but I am running a SOHN adapter and I use Lucas semi synthetic 2 stroke in that (at the moment). I will be running Lucas 2 stroke as premix as well for a while and if it smokes like the Pennzoil then I will switch back to Lucas.

FYI, Northern Tool has the medium size bottle of Lucas UCL for $8.00 (versus $12.99 o so at Autozone, etc.)

It doesn't. Lucas fuel treatment to keep the injectors clean and Idemitsu 2-cycle oil pre-mix to provide add'l apex seal lubrication is the way I roll.

The Lucas is pretty much a lubricant for the most part with some cleaning additives. Just compare it to other cleaners and you will see the vast difference.

But honestly using something that was designed specifically to lubricate (good 2 Jaso-FD 2 stroke), and to burn off cleanly is the best bet since some of the "additives" are not held to any type of standard so its hard to say how good or bad they are so there is a bit of risk involved.

2-cycle oil "pre-mixed" into the gas (4-8 oz per tankful) has been shown to better lubricate the the rotor's apex seals and thereby better maintain compression over time. 2009 "series II" and on vehicles have a 3rd oil injector, which would seem to substantiate the need on pre-'09 "series I" models. Many of us also have the CobbAP tuner and have set a higher oil injection flowrate, as did the Mazda MSP16 firmware flash.

Idemitsu is good stuff..running that currently in my turbo fc...20w50.

Cool, yeah i knew premixing will help luburcate..never thought about mixing it with an injector cleaner though.

And yes, about the lucus already being a lubricant with cleaning additivies, I figured it would be fine just to run low doses of it at a time. Instead of premixing.

I premix my 7 absolutly.

But ive never ran an injector cleaner on a rotary before.

I'll pick up some lucus and mix it with idemitsu premix and let you guys know how it runs.

.....actually, im just going to run it by the mazda dealship quite aways away from my town and let them do a full zoom zoom cleaning on it..so if they screw it up, its not on me ^_^ ill still get the idemitsu though.

Yeah I was thinking today at work, ill just do a compression test and cleaning myself then another compression test afterwards to see if higher numbers reveal themselfs.

I hate the dealers too but I just didnt want to do it lol. I had a case of the lazys.

I use the injector cleaner on my car.

Lucus has been recommend by several racers and fellow mechanics.

This not definitive and could be caused by dirty gas even though I only use one brand of gas. But this is what my filter sock looked like after premixing with UCL for the past 20k. Mind you this pump has over 100k on it.

I swap between UCL and a 2-stroke synthetic every couple of fill ups. Don't want too much cleaner as you need some oil film. I like to do some preventative carbon maintenance with my right foot rather than pouring in some cleaner.

None of this is really scientific. UCL isn't going to hurt anything persay, just do what feels right!

Reciprocating engines generally don't burn their lubricating oil, let alone purposely inject it into the combustion chamber. Just something for all you mad scientists to consider ....
