Magnaflow Cat for RX-8 (23909)
Does anyone have any recent experience on this product from Magnaflow? Is it a reasonable replacement for the stock cat or will it die after a few months?
Thanks.

There are 2 versions of the cat, 1 is epa grade and the other is oem grade, same 25k miles warranty, the difference is the oem grade match the euro 4 spec with more precious metal and special coating designed like oem. It will not die in a few months, mangnaflow cat usually has high quality, at least for their direct fit model
But note none of the above has carb approval

Great info thanks! I wondered why there was another version for twice the cost at $600...

...makes sense that it would be the euro 4 spec.
No emissions testing where I live. I got a fresh engine under warranty before Christmas and I figure it might be a good time to swap out the 8 year old cat for either a new one or a catless midpipe. $300 for the Magnaflow 23909 seemed like a good deal vs $500 for an accessport plus $150+ for a midpipe.

I'd love to go catless, but I have the personality type that driving around with a check engine light would bug me, so I'd have to add $500 for a cobb accessport to any catless option to permanently clear the CEL. Then the price starts getting up there. I love my 8, but I already have a German track car that absorbs money, so the 8 has to stick to a budget.

the easiest way is take ur cat out and gut it, then put a piece of tape over your CEL(or just take the IC out and break the CEL light manually!) and pretend nothing happen
haha, ok j/k
no emission testing? cheapest way is still just gut ur cat and get a cobb to mask the CEL.
if u really worry and on a budget, get a mangaflow EPA cat should do, do u live close to the border ? send it to some garage across the border, go there install it, come back, done.

I ordered a cat from advance auto has a five year unlimited mile warranty... it was 280 I believe. I installed it passed emissions and then put my gutted cat back on.....I only get a cell about once every 3 months....I have a code reader and just clear it

Magnaflow usually has great quality products, and their stuff seems to flow really well. Their cats are usually big diameters and no nonsense stuff. Their exhausts seem to be the same way. Never had any issues with a Magnaflow product being junk. I am sure their stuff would last at least a year.

I install a lot of those on 8's that come into my shop. The stock cat clogs over time and destroys the engine by trapping too much heat. These are relatively affordable, bolt right up, and you gain some hp. I stock them. If you are going through multiple cats you have another issue like an ignition problem.
