Manual vs Dealership oil issue
I know the manual for the RX-8 says to use 5W-20 but my local dealership uses 5W-30 during oil changes. Should I use 5W-30 then when filling my engine between oil changes? or ask the dealership to use the 5W-20? Thanks.

I dug out this old topic since I just heard that apparently in Europe, the RX-8 manual states: 5W-30 should be used in winter and 10W-30 in summer or in warmer climates. Interesting... why would Mazda recommend different oil for the same engine at different locations?
This indeed tells me that there can be nothing wrong with putting 5W-30 into the car.

the reason they must recommend different oils in different locations is because of the EPA. one of the things done by several auto companies including mazda to pass the newer U.S.emissions standards tests is to test with 5w20 oil. what ever oil they go thru the testing with is what they MUST recommend to the customer.
