I had an '87 Acura Integra 5sp that specified 10w30 engine oil for the transmission. It was in the owner's manual, I know because I reread it many times because I couldn't believe it.

You convinced me. Looks like it's time to sell the tool box and go to work at McDonalds.

Ice,

How long have you had the car? 04 or 05?
How many miles? Have you ever gone in for service?

I wouldn't worry about them saying too much about you shifting that high. Just tell them that when you do go up that high (which is not very often b/c of 4th gear) that it does grind.

Good luck w/ the dealership. Get it in there asap

I had a problem where my car would not shift from 3rd to 4th unless it was under 6k. I had bent shift forks and Mazda replaced them. My dealership had no problems with the high revs or testing it like that. As soon as they called it in Mazda authorized the repair, there's some hidden, internal memo on it.

Got it brand new with 243 miles on it in december 04 (6spd 04) with just over 5k in miles now. Been in for oil change thats about it.

So you think that bringing it in is going to be the only option? I need to do the AC and the skweaky breaks anyways so i guess this is just what gets me to stop draging my feet.

First time having to bring a car in under warentee any suggestion on how to bring them my laundry list of things W/O getting the brush off?

I was speaking to a guy a couple of weeks back during a club meet and he described to me the exact same symptoms. A nasty grinding feeling when changing gears between 2nd, 3rd & 4th. He said when he dropped the transmission oil, it was black and watery. It basically looked as if the oil had degraded and broken down, causing the grating he felt. He then changed the oil to an equalivant spec oil and the problems ceased pretty quickly. Guess he was lucky and spotted the problem early. The guy recommended that i dump the transmission oil outta my RX8 when i take delivery of it and put in the same spec of oil he changed his to.

As to what exactly he put in etc... my memory sux. But if you want me to clarify what exact specs of oil he changed to, just PM me and i'll put u in contact with him.

Above all else, be educated about the issues for which you are bringing in your car. That will save you a big headache. Plus, you get a lot of respect from the techs. Call your service guy and give him the heads up before hand. Establish a good rapport with him, and he will take very good care of you.
BTW, I'm on my second set of brake pads (originals replaced under warranty) and they started squeeking the other day after about 6 months of normal use.
It's in these situations that having easy access to TSB reports posted by Finishline Performance become such a great resource.

mazda screw ups

sounds like zoom44 works for a dealer.

I doubt what you said is true. Noller ford has Mitsubishi and Mazda....their customer shop labor cost is $100.00 per hour. Neither of the above mentioned Car manufacturers are going to /or do pay the franchised dealership the same labor rate as do the customers.

I called the Mazda America the other day....talked to tecnical department...and told "the jerk" I had been doing some researching on my car and that ther were discrepancies in what is told the customers and what is real...

He told me I should have done my research before I "got" the car. I am considering returning the car. They will **** up my credit, but I am tired of getting screwed by MAZDA....MITSUBISHI....and of course the local dealer...We can't trust them.

I'm for revolution. Rebellion...Let the Companies get their cars back and suffer a reputation problem. ......I can't do that...shame and despair will rack me. And my self esteem will surely suffer. OK OK i'll pay.

My transmision fluid was like water when I removed it at 1200 miles. I put royal purple in it. My car was an Aug 03 Manufacture date. I think Mazda screwed up and put a light weight oil in these gearboxes. my serial number is JM1FE173640113569. My gearbox whines like a 150000 mile transmision except in 5th.

I feel silly about asking this, as I feel reasonably educated about all the peculiarities of the RX8, but there's something I've been wondering about since I first got my car...and hopefully it's not a big deal:
Is the noise the transmission makes when I'm in neutral and my foot is off the clutch normal? It's almost a grinding sound, but isn't as distressing as it seems. I don't have any problems shifting as yet, and I'm not paranoid like some people appear to be (or are becoming). I just wonder about it.

I have an early build date (April '03 I think), and I haven't had any problems with anything so far, except for the squeeky brakes. Hopefully I'm a lucky one.

I have noticed this about all of my rx-7s. They all started doing that at about 15k miles. The first one if had replaced. It was the thrust or throwout bearing. The others I left alone and never had a failure. the highest mile one I sold had 167000 miles on the odo.

I figured it was normal, since it did that from day one, and I haven't had any problems after almost 12000 miles. Thanks.
