Mazda Rx8 2007 Motor Warranty?
I was going through the mazda website and saw this..
Now I'm currently around the 140k Mark, and the engine does not seem to show any compression loss or any problems at all. (only problem I had was cat over heat and clutch bearing problem in the past)
Now my question is, how does the warranty work, and should I "force" a breakdown on the motor?
I've always taken good car, Oil changed every 3000-5000km and bi yearly checkups and maintenance.
Thanks!

Just get a rotary compression test before you hit 160,000kms or 2015 and find out what shape you engine is in. Why would anyone "force" a breakdown if the engine has good compression. The replacement engine you would get if you qualified with failing compression numbers is just a rebuild and some of those have been prone to problems. If your engine is good , keep it that way and save the trouble, aggravation and added costs (yes there will be hundreds in costs for other parts you will need to also replace with any engine swap that are NOT covered by the warranty)

A) Find out your original in-service date, since the 8years starts from that date, not from jan 1st 2007.
B) Definitely get the engine tested before the warranty expires, just in case.
C) No, don't force a failure, if the engine is good, it's good, and your reman may not be. Reman quality is better than it used to be, but can still be problematic. And any engine replaced does not get the warranty period refreshed. If you replaced the engine 3 days and 5 miles before the warranty was up, then the warranty would only cover your replacement engine for that 3 days and 5 miles.
