Me and the 8 whent to the dragstip today.

Well, I had a chance to take my bone stock Rx-8 to the track today. It was the season opener for Woodburn drag strip. Conditions where around 57-63F, with a slight head wind. Partly cloundy. I've never tried launch my Rx-8 before this, so please don't laugh to hard. :D I was the very first car to be on the track this year, so you can imagine, how green the track was. My first run, I lined up and launched the car at 7k rpms. To be honest, I did'nt even get any axle hop....the tires did'nt even have a chance of hooking up.

Reaction time .611
60ft 2.553
330' 6.726
1/8 10.107
MPH 73.17
1000 12.996
1/4 15.472
MPH 90.47

Not very good.

Reaction time .916 <~Not good.
60ft 2.6
330 6.888
1/8 10.258
MPH 73.47
1000 13.135
1/4 15.575
MPH 91.83

This one REALY sucked. This is what happens when you forget to turn off the traction control. The car launchs, then fall flat on its face. Then going into 2nd gear, the traction control kicked in again.

Last and final run of the day.

Reaction time .506 <~Ohh yeah!
60ft 2.273<~better!
330' 6.311
1/8 9.631
MPH 74.16
1000 12.492
1/4 14.926
MPH 92.16

With a little more practice, I'm shure I could have knocked anouther couple .1s off of my 60ft time. Overall, the Rx-8 is 10x harder to launch than my FD. The car either spins the tires forever, or bogs. Whats realy funny, is my 2nd gen with all the bolt-ons and tuned ran a 14.8@94mph and a 15.1@98mph! It seems that my Rx-8 makes more mid range hp, but the ol' FC made more peak power, and was a lighter car. I had a great time, and hopefully will be able to take the car back again soon. CJ

My best was a 15.02 , all stock.

So what RPM's did you launch at for the 14.9 time?
I was launching at 4-4.5k, didn't want to go any higher.

ya know.. for some reason, i've found that i get better 60 ft times with a lil wheel spin. i haven't mastered launching on the 8 either..but i've gotten a 2.25 60 ft with some spin.. and then, when i thought i had a good launch, i was about .2 s off of that time.. (shrug)

i want to take my car out to the strip sometime.. especially since i can actually shfit to 2nd now (did the reflash have anything to do w/ that?)..is it hard to get the 8 to run into the 14s?

i find that launching at 4k and above results in too much spin...maybe it's b/c i don't slip the clutch..hmm shrug again

I've never been a fan of slipping the clutch. I just let her fly! Like I said, the first time I launched it was at 7k rpms, and all it did was fry the tires. 2nd time was with the traction control on. Last run of the day I launched it at around 6k. I was realy hoping for a 2.1~2.0 60ft. Overall I was hoping to trap atleast 93~94mph. I had a great time and met some cool Evo owners thought. The guy who had a stock car was running 14.0s~13.9s at around 99~100mph.

My FC pretty much had everything done to it. Full exhaust, intake, ported intake manifold, slightly ported engine, s-afc, HI-6, etc. etc....

The way I looked at it was.....I may be slow, but I shure do look good doing it. :D

CJ

Ohh yes....I was also running 21lbs of air pressure in the rear.
