Measuring & Pouring Premix Oil

This premix idea makes sense to me, so I've started doing it in the first week I have my new RX8.

But it also looks like a PITA to carry, measure, and pour the oil, so as a lazy man will, I went looking for an easier way.

The answer that looks good to me is to put the oil in an empty Sta-Bil fuel stabilizer bottle. It has an semiautomatic measuring device built in, and a long neck to let you pour it easily. The bottles come in three sizes, 8, 16, and 32 ounces. I'm using the small one, pictured below.

For those who've never used one, they are easy.

First, of course, get rid of the Sta-Bil and fill it with the oil of your choice.

To use it, take the small cap off (leave the big one on).

Squeeze the big part of the bottle. That will force oil up the transfer tube into the small chamber. When the oil gets to the level of the transfer tube you can quit squeezing; as the bottle relaxes it will suck out any excess from the small chamber, leaving you one ounce there.

Dump the ounce into your gas tank. Repeat the squeeze for another ounce. Don't worry when you dump it; no oil will flow from the bottle due to the partial vacuum there. If you worry anyway, just dump it in with the transfer tube on the high side of the bottle as you pour.

I keep mine double-bagged in a ziplock bag under the hood.

What I did was I went to The Container store and got myself a 4 oz spill proof plastic bottle. a bottle a premix in the trunk.

Every fill up. I dump the premix into the plastic bottle. then I dump it into the tank. Nice and easy. No-ooops I over fill premix.

I measure my oil in "glugs".
5 glugs equals about 8 oz.

Really, you guys are being a bit **** about this.
The Renesis will endure up to 20 oz of oil per tank (which would probably be oily, smelly, sooty and completely ludicrous). 4 oz is probably the effective minimum. I do 6 to 8.

Nothing **** about being as precise as convenience permits.

The setup I showed combines three necessary things in one - the oil container, the measuring device, and the funnel. Doesn't get much more convenient than that, and pouring a measured ounce at a time allows a nice degree of precision.

Indeed.
My point was that concentration variation has little real effect.
As long as you are using at least 4 oz, it doesn't matter how much you add up to an obnoxious level.

Take the bottle out.
Uncap
Pour the oil into the bottle till its full
Dump it in
Pour about 1/2 bottle more (I do 6oz premix now)
Dump it into the tank
Close both bottles.
Fill up
put everything back to the trunk

I just use the marker lines on the side of the bottle. I use Idemitsu and the lines on their bottle is in 4 oz increments.

I know... revival of an old thread, but was looking for solutions.

I bought a 6 pack of gas line anti-freeze. 4$

150ml bottles. 5 ounces.

I'll fill up each one with Amsoil Saber Pro and have 6 premix bottles

Fill up gaz, drop in a bottle, easy peezy.

I found out after the purchase that the caps are snap on, not twist... we'll see how long they last without leaking. I'll keep em in a ziplock and somewhere safe in the trunk until I figure out if it is spill proof.

I bought a few dozen of these, they're made from aluminum - and pretty damn cheap for what you get.

Anyway, the long thin bottle holds 4oz, and the fat one holds 8 oz. I measure using a measuring cup and fill them all up, so I'm good for several months at a time.

Just get the Protek form Petttit. Then you can re-use the bottles.

The protek bottles seem like a good option, as I might want to try it out.
I'll wait for my next business trip to South FL. (should be very soon)

mysql I really like your option too. Those bottles are aluminum and damn cheap. Less than 1$ for 4 or 8 oz bottles. sweet.

I'll go with my gaz line anti-freeze bottles for now then I'll see.
