Meeting with a pole
Hello, guys!
I'm pretty newbie driver so I had an accident recently. I went to a bodyshop and they calculated ~1700 for restoration plus possible hidden damage. Of course, I said that I'll pay myself
What was damaged:
* From bumper -- some damage and faded color
* Passenger-side fender -- caving in
* Head light -- glass is damaged and small lamp doesn't work
In general, I think the price is a little bit high. I don't really understand why you need to spend 4 hours trying to refine the bumper, then paint it for 6 hours, if you can buy a brand new for $300. The same goes to the head light -- the guy said it should be replaced completely!!! And the new one costs $500
Anyway, what would you recommend? I'm a little bit of DIY guy so I don't mind to do some work myself. What should I do? Can I buy a bumper and headlights myself and then drop by another guy and ask him to install everything? Or maybe I can install everything myself?
Please give me your advice!
Thanks in advance!!
Andrew

Thats because
Auto Paint is expensive, and if you want *good/perfect* work it has to be done in a dust-less room(or closed room)
Head Light does cost alot.
You probably need 4 hours to refine the bumper if its a quality work, and it takes mad long for Auto paint to completely dry. 6 hours is already *short*, they will throw your car into a heated room to make it dry faster.
An OEM brand new bumper painted for 300 bucks ? good luck with that.

Why not hit up arlington mazda in the vendor forum and see if they will sell you that fender painted from the factory like they do the stock and mazdaspeed fronts. Might be cheaper and its GAURENTEED to match since its from mazda
By the way that price does seem a LITTLE inflated considering I have seen really good shops do an entire custom paint job for about 2600 bucks, but then again VR is a 3 stage paint so I dunno.
