Mix'n and Match'n TPMS sensors?

Hey guys,

I was just wondering something about TPMS sensors. Say I was to buy a set of 3 sensors and complete the set with another random one, do I need to program them at all? Will the one random sensor throw the tire light because it wasn't originally part of the set? Or does the vehicle just recognize the sensors and that's that?

Thanks in advance,
Michael

If they are the same/correct part # youre fine.

Is the "random" one you want to use an RX8 sensor?

The sensors are based on radio frequency (315 MHz). As long as they're all the same RF you're fine (I've got two Mazda and two TireRack - AOK).

there's also something about these tpms sensors...

i'm using identical sensors off a mazda3. same samsung units.

BUT, occasionally the tpms would still trigger on after driving for a while. i don't believe the module needs to be initiallized, as it never had any issues when i sold the stockers with its tpms original units. the light doesn't trip on solid, but rather blinks after having been driven for a while.

the only thing i can chalk up to it randomly doing this is the fact that i run taller tires, on 17" rims. the tires doesn't warm up and expand to a set value on certain drives with colder temps.

Hmm, that would be what I'm trying to avoid. That's what happened when I had my non-stock wheels on there, that didn't have tpms sensors. Light would blink after driving about 20 miles or so.
