MSP04 Campaign

With all the flashing going on, is it physically possible to flash an RX-8 with the wrong flash?

I mean those who have experience with the Mazda WDS, like our buddy snap-on, or others.

Reason I ask is that, I took my car into the dealer for some normal maintenance and was suprisingly presented that my car was reflashed due to the MSP04 campaign. I was like COOL... I'm not sure what the MSP04 campaign was, but I figured HEY, I got have the M flash at least!

So I go home to check out what the MSP04 campaign is and my suspicions was confirmed, it's Mazda mandatory reflash for all 8s. So now my dilemma presents itself. I drive a 6M/T RX-8, yet I look at my service order and it says my car was flashed with N3H4-18-881A. Wait a minute.. that's the flash for the A/T! M/Ts are supposed to get N3H6-18-881A. Hmmmm....

Now I'm hoping that maybe the mechanic just typed it in wrong and I really got the correct flash. Hmmm... So my overall question once again.. Is it possible to flash an M/T RX-8 with that of an A/T flash?

I'm hoping that the WDS system would be smart enough to know that so and so flash cannot go in so and so car. Possibly warning the technician before he performed it?

snap-on? Mazda techs.. does anyone know?

i just started a job as a service writer and it's quite possible that whoever wrote the work order just goofed and didn't notice the difference in the part #'s: if your car still revs to 9k rpm, i think you're alright

Ahh, I guess I should test it to 9K then.. Never thought of that. wonder what would happen if I do in fact have the wrong flash and rev it to 9K.. Hmm..

The ECU will shed the hidden convertalbe top, then activate the ejector seat. By the time you hit the ground, the nuclear core will melt down and your '8 will look like that beer can you threw in the fire that time when you were camping out.

I'm really interested in finding out. Make sure you tell us ASAP. :D

Actually, there was a thread that got into this a while back... and the conclusion, by someone who knows what the WDS can and cannot do, was that it is possible to flash a car with the wrong flash even though the system is close to idiot-proof. But never underestimate the power of an idiot, as one of them managed to put a Tribute flash on a 6, or something like that.

oy! Thanks for that vote of WDS's idiot proofness .. That certainly instills worry in me.

I mean how would I even know? Say she revs to 9K, power seems so so, no real worry as far as I can tell.. How would I even know that I'm not getting what I should be... argh. Unless it truly blows at 9K..

I really dont want to harass the dealer again. I've been there too many times over the past couple months.. heehee

Your car would only rev to 7500 if you had the AT flash. Not to mention CEL. There are back door methods & tricks to loading different calibrations, but not too many people know how.

I'm pretty sure the ecu would have gotten pretty unhappy if you had an a/T flash when it would have tried to send the shift signal to the tranny that wasn't there...

Aaah... even better!

I would have guessed that these particular flashes only adjusted the fuel maps/etc and not the physical workings of the car.. but if that's the case, then its looking better and better that I should have received the correct flash.

It is possible to get teh wrong flash but the service person has to not believe what the wds is telling them AND lie to the wds over and over. like someone else said it takes avery determined idiot to screw it up. glad your car is ok NUT. how is Hawaii?
