Does the RB template clear the side seal path also ?
I found it interesting that Pettit shows some port work they do (on the same page as the turbo failure theory ) that actually puts a largish radius right under the side seal travel path . Doesn't seem like they thought that out too well .

Yes it does... It's a very mild street port, there was allot of talk when I ported 3 years ago about cutting into the water jackets bla bla bla. There is so much to take out its not even funny. we intentionally dug deep into the port to find the water jacket and still didnt hit it.
The only issue is changing the timing at this point. but I think there is allot of material that can be taken out internally to smooth out flow and make things happier in there.
But just because there was no break thru doesn't mean I wouldn't worry about the structural integrity and a crack happening or something. That is a ton of heat so that is probably why it is so thick. But there was a ton of meat there that is for sure. But it definitely is not as delicate as RG and others made it out to be.

I want to cut it open and see where everything is to see how much room we actually have to play with.
BDC's ports are way larger than anything I'd ever feel comfortable doing, there are people running his street ports just fine.
That leads me to believe "experts" were chiming in without any knowledge as usual.
Just as an update the RA seals did indeed eat up a used very low mileage minimal wear housing I used.
It is possible that with new housings they would do fine, however the damage that was done after 1500 miles of very light break in driving was beyond belief.
Feel free to give them a try, I cannot guarantee that they will not eat up new housings as well.
I have given up on the Renesis as power plant and will be looking into a 20B track build in the future 3+ years from now.

LOL I just didn't want to spend the money buying new housings and seals getting the rotors milled etc. Doing it all over again and still not have the body work done.
Hmmm, I was planning on sticking with OEM everything for my rebuild but my local shop keeps recommending the RA apex seals. I will be using new housings but, I hear 50/50 good and bad experiences with these seals. What made you go with these in the first place? I thought after reading your build thread you went with cryo treated oem apex seals.

On my first build I used Cryo treated OEM seals that lasted 30k on used housings. Second build used RA seals that lasted 1000 miles with used housings.
Quick update. I went back down the rabbit hole, rebuilt using all OEM components. New MAF, 02 sensor, mounts, cleaned injectors, etc. I drove it back home from TX to PA has 2000 miles on her getting 23 MPG and she fires right up everytime I turn the key.
I am happy to be back in the RX8 world again .

Haven't really decided on that, I am enjoying the nimble responsiveness of the car. it will be on jackstands until next spring. I should get bored of that fairly soon, the following winter I will go turbo again.
