Hey guys.

I don't know if i'm just being paranoid but does the transmission run a little hot in the 8?

I have a manual 2003 with all recalls done etc.. everything is fine, engine oil, engine temps etc.

And it is pretty cool all day round but I can't understand why the transmission area is fairly hot?

I can't remember it being that hot but my car just got back from an accident so maybe I am just being paranoid.

Even though the gear **** is not hot, the leather housing gets pretty warm, and if i press against the plastic in the cup holders it is very warm. Not hot enough to burn but definately warm enough to keep your fingers toasty on a very cold night.
I can even feel the heat radiate out if i float it above the cup holders.

Should i be worried?

 

sometime you have to get under the car.... that will show you that the cat is right in the area you mention...

depending on where the hit was, you might check to see if the shields are still in place..

It could technically be normal. But if its getting INSANE hot inside when it wasnt getting as hot prior, it could be a sign of failure.. Friction is an enemy, a byproduct of friction is heat!

 

When you have a sexy car like the 8 you expect your stick not to get hot?

 

I'm thinking that since he has a pre-production RX-8, maybe the stick does get extra hot. I hear this is something they fixed at the end of development right before they released the car.
