OK...so if I run a grounding wire from each coil to the negative terminal on the battery, whether through a distributor or straight through, will it help?
My kit should come in next weekend and I'm trying to figure out whether I should run each individually. Someone said (in a different thread) the coils were insulated, so running a wire from each coil is an exercise in futility.
Thanks.

I would seriously debate the need to take paint off to get an effective contact . The main electrical connection is supposed to be between the bolt & the internal thread of the connection - not the wire tab onto the body .
But if you feel like making a potential rust spot - who am i to argue.

But yes you are right, just scraping off the paint and not using conductive grease or painting back over the connection afterwards is just asking for rust and a poor connection down the road.

Help...
My 8 is definitely running smoother than before after this mod.
I got all the grounding spot, but one....
I couldn't reach that spot, technically I could reach it (after taking out CAI), but couldn't tight the screw and nuts due to limited space....any tricks...?

I just installed this kit on my car. It certainly idles smoother and I don't see any change in the rpm when engaging the AC. Shifting seems to be smoother, but that may be results that I'm expecting to see, so I'm seeing them.

Never seize is also good as it contains metals which create a good contact while resisting corrosion. Permatex copper based is the best.

Yeah Actually the last post was 2011 not so long ago, but regardless is the information no longer valid or relative? Now everyone knows ALL the answers and everyone who owns an Rx8 has already grounded their cars? No second or third generation owners out there will find this info valuable? Not true, I have.. Is it possible to respond to old threads with related new info to aid other readers in the present/future or should one just begin an entirely new thread out of the blue and just mention that never seize is a good product for corrosion prevention while not interfering with grounding contact just for the sake of a new thread?
For supposedly educated people I'm beginning to get a sense of lacking common sense here already.. I also don't see anything wrong with bringing an informative topic back to the surface for refreshing on occasion.. Is there something wrong with that? Or should we just not respond and read only to let old topics die? If so how does new info get out to the membership?

My grounding kit install..
Well this thread has been very informative, so I thought I would apply what I learned and throw in my two cents..
I ordered a cheap eBay grounding kit, like MazdaManiac; $18 shipped.
When I received it, I found that it wasn't half bad! Especially for $18!
Then this happened:
I wasn't too bummed, because I figured I should expect something like this with a cheap eBay kit..
So I got to soldering!
I soldered all the connectors and re-wrapped them:
I grounded some of the same areas as MazdaManiac:
Right side of the bay..
Alternator:
I decided to add a ground to the throttle body:
And of course the left side of the bay near the strut tower:
And here's the end result:
Now I should add that before the install I experienced a semi-rough idle, with frequent misfire's. I understand that this is mostly normal with these cars, and I do intend to upgrade the ignition system with a BHR kit in a couple weeks.
After the install, I reset the ECU via the 20 stomp brake pedal technique.. Started her up, let her warm up, and then took it for a drive.
It did feel a little more responsive, but that's probably because I was looking for such feedback. No noticeable difference in power, as expected.
My idle is MUCH better, however! When I sit at a stop light or stop sign, the idle is smooth, with the exception of an occasional little misfire, but it's certainly improved!
I'm overall happy with the results..
Thanks everyone for the input!

Thread rez... I just measured the resistance from my neg battery terminal to several points around the engine bay, I observed ~.5 to .7 ohms every place I tested including the alternator. I'm just wondering if I would actually see much benefit to doing this mod.

It seems that kit has not changed much over the years. Mine did the same thing.. I did the same thing.... All in all though, that is the cheapest way to buy wire and connectors I know of.
@ INANE, I observed about the same thing. I have a feeling that you can get similar benefits by just cleaning up all the connections, and install a star washer (a good one, stainless, to go through the paint to metal) under each existing ground point. I just have not tried. Care to go first?
