Very, very cool! Go - make it, sell it. "If you make it, they will come" (and buy it...)

Atmel FPGA / CPLD or microcontroller?

Very impressed, by the way. Any other similar projects in the works? I am involved in similar projects.

this is what stops a lot of us who are comfortable with component level design from making magical things like this! ie - the compression tester that was groupbuy'd here(i love it btw), i had been trying to put together a schematic to breadboard for months and finally gave into the fact that the only feasible way to do it was with a microcontroller and gave up.

from someone who plays with component electronics at a VERY amatuer level, great job, congrats, and a general thumbs up dude

Good job.

I applaud your work. I was considering finding another LCD or a VFD to replace the stock one, but as I'm sure you're aware, sizing is somewhat of an issue.

Don't fall asleep at the wheel here. You have a marketable product. In regards to your SMT soldering, have you tried the toaster oven approach?

I'm looking to do something more audio carputer related, perhaps if someone set up a donation page and it reached a certain goal, you'd be willing to release the pinout/protocol as you've documented it?

Best of luck,

John

Subscribed. By far the best digital gauge option for OEM sensors I have seen. Brilliant.

Considering I have been completely out of luck getting my scanalyzer working, something that is 'OEM' is perfect.

Maybe you could figure out how to make the Engine Coolant Temp guage functional.

Maybe I missed it, but would the alarm/buzzer work for any and all guages, even if they are not being displayed? So If the ECT reaches a preset temp the buzzer sounds and the ect is diplayed at the same time. And who can set when the buzzer goes off? Would the buyer have to tell you what he/she wants at the time of purchase?

Feature request:

A custom overspeed warning like the GTOs/Camaro's have would be awesome, if you have speedo information available.

Also... i would personally love a toned down version of the kit that is nothing more than you'd need to tie it to an aurdino (or similar). Even if you don't want to make the shield, just the interface and some documentation would kick ***.

I know you spent a lot of time reversing this yourself, so i'd completely understand if you weren't interested in sharing the information. I'd be just as likely to buy either option, personally, i'd just love the ability to implement custom displays.

John, I'm sure he knows this but he needs to be very, very careful about "infringement" as it is. I'm sure he will look into this thoroughly.

I have a feature request too... put a prolific or ftdi serial controller on it so that we can plug it into our CARPCs to have full control over the display given a simple command set.

^........I was thinking of a USB interface type arrangement that would allow some basic functionality myself.

Damn this guys idea is blowing up lol!

If he can get a patent and find someone to produce them looks like this just may be his ticket to making a pretty penny

I would still have to solder-paste all the pads and place them. I am talking to a few manufacturers, trying to find a decent price.

Let me try and get a handful of these made first, then I can look into more open devices and docs.
