is my rx-8 safe to drive after rough idle and stalling?
I just got done with a ~400 mile road trip from Albuquerque to Phoenix. As I was pulling to a stop off the freeway, my 06 AT (~35000mi) stalled. It has never done this before, so I am freaking out a little. I would take it directly to the dealer, but I am out of town. I will be driving back to ABQ tomorrow (hopefully), and was wondering if I will be doing any damage to the car by driving it back. From what I get out of the other posts on this issue it is fairly common and shouldn't hurt anything permanently. I just want to get a couple of opinions on whether I should drive it home, or take it to a dealer here and rent a car to get home tomorrow...
Thanks for your help, the people on this forum are awesome. I think this is the first time I've ever had to create a topice because all other questions are already answered within 5min of searching...

Check all the fluilds that can be checked under the hood. Did the engine cut off? Did it start right back up? What was your fuel level?
If all fluid levels are good, fill-up with Top Tier Gas. If it drives like normal, it should be fine.

Could be a lot of things. We don't know your service history. It could be low compression. Have you ever run a premix? You might run a couple cans of Seafoam through your tank on the way back. This will help clean the carbon out of the engine.

if u're still under b2b, go back to dealership and keep on bitching and tell them that your car stalling like *** and wouldnt go fast on highways blah blah blah.
they will look at it.
You are not lying, your car did stall. and its NOT supposed to happen under normal conditions.

Ok. I figured from what everyone else was saying that if it started back up it was no big deal. Just making sure. Thanks for the quick responses. I'll take it in when I get back. The only thing that bothered me was that it took about 2min before it would restart. I just had the oil changed, gas was 1/2 full (no premix). It was the first long trip after I got the 30000 mile dealer service. They updated the software, so maybe that had something to do with it. Thanks again to everyone who tried to help.
