contact mazmart and ask them if they have any used. I got a used one from them a few months back for my 05. Works great. Just make sure you tighten everything down on install.

M8 it would be really good if you could first fill out some details about yourself and your car...

It appears you are in UK?..correct?

To answer your question ...

Seeing you are in the UK...I guess..

The N3R3-18-400 was first used in the Series 2 RX-8 manual (or R3 in UK), Yes it will fit ALL manual RX-8's, it is 14 tooth Starter Drive.

You have a few choices...

Either buy direct from a UK Mazda Dealer...I gave you the full Part Number..

or you buy from a US Mazda Dealer, but they are now only selling Reman units N3R3-18-400 R00 for $475.00.

What is your allowable UK imports before Duty, Tax, I think only 25 pounds?..

How does the N3R3 differ from the N3Z1?

I may have a picture for physical visual differences. The pinion drive gear is exposed on the 09. They are both much better than the 04-early 05 units. N3H1-18-400A, NZ31-18-400 and N3R3-18-400 are all much quicker than the original.

Kevin, if I can find a pic I'll put it up.

Dan, we should have one. Send a pm to Sheldon (Mazmart "6"). He will help.

Paul.

N3R3 (S2) is open faced as Paul said and has a 14 tooth drive gear not a 13 in N3Z1 and 11 in the original weak Starters.

BTW: Be careful many of these 'cheap' eBay RX-8 Starters are the old 11 tooth weak units.
N3R3 (S2) will fit on S1.

N3Z1 is or should I say was an interim supply Starter for a TSB ONLY and in fact is no longer supplied.

All suppliers should be using/recommending the Series 2 Starters, even @ $50 more for all RX-8's

Thanks for the info. I don't stay "in the loop" on part numbers and the new parts stream very often.

edit: nm, appears to be a rebadged Saenz racing starter

For any one who is wondering here is a picture of an N3R3 starter from a 2009.

The N3R3 is the one closest to the camera with the yellow writing. A bit hard to see but you can notice that there is no shield on the N3R3

The one further in the back is a failing N3H1-18-400A that was on my car when I purchased it. The N3R3 starter spins much faster than my reman N3H1-18-400A. The 400A I believe had the 2KW rating upgraded from previous S1 stock but it did not have the 14 tooth faster spin.

Name: n3r3starter.jpg

Size: 110.0 KB

Thanks again Mazmart (Also just in case if any1 is worried, it fits on the S1. Mine is a 2005)

Original Equipment N3R2-18-400 Starters were initially used for Series 2 AUTO Trans only.

N3R3-18-400 is Series 2 Manual Trans.

These Original Equipment part and part numbers never existed before Series 2 in 2009 (April 2008 vehicle production to be exact)...

No, N3R2 is OE Part Number for S2 AUTO Starter.

Mazda Dealers and those who source OE Mazda Parts from MNAO still list 3 separate reman Starters for all Series RX-8's, 2 for S1, 2 for S2.
S2 Auto is still NOT a reman yet, and S2 Manual Trans is a reman.

N3H1-18-400 R0A S1 Manual reman
N3R3-18-400 R00 S2 Manual reman

N3H2-18-400 R0B S1 Auto reman
N3R2-18-400 S2 Auto (not reman, brand new OEM), and more expensive.

I don't care what Mazda Motorsport website says...they are wrong, or your interpretation, please give a llink...

ALL N3R2's are for AUTO Trans ONLY, a Starter which WILL NOT fit on a Manual Trans Rotary....

I had every intention to come back and correct it if my posted info was incorrect and you are right, it was incorrectly placed there by the Motorsports personnel. Just the same it was the info I had at the moment.

Who exactly is being 'petty'...I suggest you look in the mirror.

You continue to deliberately bait other members for an argument because you do not agree with what their opinion is and offer (in most cases) no constructive advice on subject matter...perhaps if you did other moderators including myself would not remove 'some' of your posts.

I suggest you take it up with Admin.

No need for a fight. Team seems on good behavior here. I think everyone is making good contribution in this thread.

Smile everyone. We can all get along.

yes, you can keep deleting my viewpoint from the thread in spite of the fact that I can't respond in kind, even though I would never do that even if I could. The only person deleting/modifying my posts or closing threads is you and it's mostly when you can't handle debating my challenge to you on technical merits. In the S2 thread you just repeatedly deleted my post from there was nothing in there that isn't all over this and every other forum. If posting a facepalm picture or :facepalm; text is a violation then we might as well eliminate 40% of the membership
