Been using Idemitsu since I brought her home from the dealer in March of '07. When it's hot as hell in summer, I'll run 8 oz/tank, but otherwise about 5 oz/tank. The plugs do ash-up a bit after a couple of years, but no sign of carbon so-far.

I get a case from Mazdatrix about every 2 years. The 8 isn't my DD. She has about 22K miles on her now.

I'm wondering if some of the more recent owners are aware that standard 2-stroke oil with blue or green dye isn't compatible with our fuel filters...sooner or later it's going to clog-up on you, full of goo. Old issue.

FWIW i used MMO in my old n/a FC. When I would do an oil change I would sub a quart of MMO for a quart of oil and would premix a bit with it. I did this because of a LOT of Rx7 guys talking about it.

I did that for two years and 34k miles. I dynod it before selling. I made 135whp with only intake and exhaust on a car normally dynos 112-115whp. The car had 140k miles on the original engine at that time.

Did it help? No idea but it sure as hell did not hurt.

I find it funny how the rx7 guys love it and the rx8 guys hate it.

I hope your castrol isn't their TTS one... it clogs everything

@Supergoat: My point is that why would one put a "Mystery" oil when there are tested and proven premixes used by hundreds of thousands of motocrossers from all over the world?

MMO is not a mystery, it's a solvent. Why bother using it when you can use something designed to lubricate? But to each his own. You got away with it but there was also a Renesis owner who made it to 100k without ever changing his oil, he just added oil as needed. He swore by that method but I'm not about to test it out on my car

Mmo

30 Years ago with my RX4 which was my daily driver for a year, raced for 2 seasons and then became my daily driver again for 2.5 years before rust did it in. When I retired the RX4 it had over 160000 miles on the original engine that had no major problems all its life. In fact it still ran good. I used Marvel Mystery as a premix when I started racing with it and continued with it the rest of its life and this without the OMP. Back then everyone with a rotary used it for a premix. I would not use it now on my RX8 since Idemitsu premix is available.

Have you seen a change in mileage? I'm premixing the same and getting an additional 50 miles on a tank...hoping there's no down-side to that

^ $20 that your mpg calculations are based on what you see on the odo at the end of each tank.

Back then people did all sorts of weird stuff to cars. Oil and gas has changed a lot since then. Heck even now there is no scientific proof that premixing the fuel does jack **** to extend the engine life on a street driven rotary.

Oh, this MMO crap again? Every time someone (be it RX7Club or RX8club) brings up how they've "been using MMO since the beginning of time and swear by it", I have to lay down the chemistry smack down on the situation. Listing and defining the ingredients in this so called "mystery oil". I'm done with that ****. It's a cleaning agent that provides little to no beneficial lubrication for our pre-mix application. I'll just leave it at that.

Lol I purposely stay away from it for the sheer purpose that they advertise it as "mystery" oil. To me that's like buying the "mystery sauce" from the felafel joint on the corner of 145th and Broadway up in NYC....its like do you really want me to trust you didn't just poop in a can and sell it to me and call it "mystery" so you dont have to explain what it really is? That is my insight for this Thursday morning.

I haven't been that far north. I am assuming it's one of those "halal" carts that serve lamb and/or chicken gyros or with rice? I am also assuming that you are talking about "white sauce". If so, then yes that is the ONLY "mystery" liquid I'm down for at all times. Absolutely delicious.

No pun intended.
