Need a clutch
My new engine is in and I want to replace the clutch while the engine is out.
I have been doing some research and it points to Exedy and Act. I am looking for some other options.
My 8 is my daily driver to and from work all season. Lots of stop and go traffic.
I am not looking for a high performance clutch.
Thoughts?

If I change out the flywheel with a light weight one how do I source a counter weight for it? I have also heard that I need to use a counter weight for an automatic transmission.

the part you need is ACT cw03.
you can buy it from most of our forum vendors, race roots, bhr, th motorsports, etc
i run the bhr 9lb flywheel. others use and like the act prolite.
i wouldnt recommend go much further than stock if you have lots of stop and go traffic. the stock clutch (is exedy) and just a notch under the exedy stage 1. both are more than adequate unless you are turbocharged beyond 300whp.

I'm planning to go with the Black Halo Racing/BHR SPEC clutch kit one of these days.
I am not going with a lighter flywheel, but if I did, I'd go with BHR flywheel too.

I'm planning to go with the Black Halo Racing/BHR SPEC clutch kit one of these days. On all the clutch kits they sell, they include a welded clutch bracket to replace the weaker stock one.

The BHR/SPEC Stage 1 clutch is perfect for any street driven RX8. We use SPEC's light weight pressure plate which gives you a pedal throw that is lighter than stock with their stage 1 organic face disc that is perfect for stop and go traffic.
The stage 1 clutch combined with the flywheel is the ultimate combination but we caution all our customers that there is a slight increase in noise/vibration due to the lighter rotational mass. All our clutch kits include the BHR heavy duty throwout bearing as well as all installation materials.
Exedy manufacturers the OEM clutch so their stage 1 is a great choice. The ACT clutch tends to have a heavier pedal throw which exposes a weakness in the clutch pedal assembly causing it to snap. I'd highly suggest getting your pedal welded either way to prevent this failure.
You can use the Mazda counterweight or the ACT cw03 with the flywheel.
While the pro-lite is a fine flywheel it does not have a replaceable friction face. So, when you have to replace the clutch you'll need to by a totally new flywheel. The BHR flywheel's friction surface is replaceable.
PM Charles R. Hill if you have any questions!
