Need help adding engine coolant.
I know i will get flamed for not searching but believe it or not, i did. Searching "adding engine coolant" didn't give any results and searching engine coolant had too many.
Anyways, for the past few day my engine coolant light (the one that looks like a government building) has been going on and off. I went to kragen and pep boys but neither of them knew what FL22 coolant meant. Finally, i just ended up getting Prestone extended life coolant which is designed for all makes and models and any color of anti freeze. Is this okay to add, or should i look for a better fit for the car (I have a 2005 mt). Also, is it okay to just add coolant until it reaches the full mark or do i have to mix in some distilled water?
Thanks in advance for your help.

FL22 is a Mazda brand coolant. Its nothing but a mixture of 55/45 (Antifreeze vs distilled water), its an extended coolant designed to last over 100K miles.
You can just fill it with any 50/50 coolant out there, or distilled water. Since you're in southern california and you're area never freezes.
but you might want to find out why you're losing coolant first.

Add coolant until the level reaches the F mark on the left hand side of the overflow bottle.
I'd stop by the dealership and ask them to top it up. I'm under warranty and every time I've needed to add coolant, I just stop off at the dealer and they top it up no charge.
I wouldn't recommend using anything but OEM coolant. I don't know how the existing coolant would react to different coolant. Could be totally fine, could cause a problem. I just don't know.

I'm with Socket7 - just use the Mazda OEM coolant. It's also known as the green coolant. When I needed some and said "FL22", the guys at the dealer parts counter were puzzled, but eventually hit upon "green."

FL22 is an extended coolant just like what you can buy off the shelf except that it has a bit more antifreeze than water.
They said new fill could last like 150K miles. but would you trust them to stay in your system for 150K miles ?

Most on the shelf coolant are green.
Just remember do NOT buy any of those Dex cool bullshit, its usually orange.
and in "rare" cases you might see pink coolant. its not for mixing with green coolant.
so yeah, stick w green like ^^ said.
