Mazda is the only group that has the resources to fund any study on what is the best oil to use in your car. Anything beyond that, including old RX7 information, is no more than an educated guess.
There are thousands of posts on this site alone about what oil to use. If you choose to go beyond what is Mazda recommended, that is your choice.

i use 20w50 most of the year, and im in nyc
when its dead cold, sometimes i use 10w40
its true that some syn are not fully syn and some non syn actually has syn oil in it(5w20 is one of them), syn or not its based on its base stock. in certain countries only pure pao and ester are considered as syn. in us, hydrocracked can also be called synthetic(thx to bp dip ****)

I suggest reading and making a decision for yourself. This is probably one of the most discussed things on this forum.
If you just want an answer without reading and making an informed decision yourself then go with 5w20 or 30.

Right - not all syn are really syn. And not all non-syn are really non-syn.
You might have heard that from Royal Purple. There's a recent shill post with a link to their statement. But a lot of people here swear by RP in their renesises (renesi?). Since you're not in the US, you don't have to worry about Mazda NA's campaign against synthetic. Since you're in a warm climate, you need oil on the heavier side...definitely heavier than 5w20. There's a weight-vs-temperature chart from the Australian owner's manual that's been posted here a number of times. I've changed computers and don't have it handy...but you should be able to search for it. You'll certainly find it by the time you've read all of the oil threads.
